The House of Winslow series is a series of novels featuring the Christian historical fiction written by the Christy Award winning American author Gilbert Morris. The author has compiled a total of 40 historical fiction novels in the series between the years 1987 and 2007. The series depicts the chronicles of the Winslow family during the time of early 17th century of the American history. The family of the Winslows has been depicted as starting from Gilbert Winslow, who was on the national duty on Mayflower for transporting the English separatists from England to America. The last member of the Winslow family described by the author Gilbert Morris in the series was Luke, who took part in the second World War as an army man. All the novels of the series were published by the Bethany House Publishers. The publishing house initially published the first part of the series with one set of covers starting from 1987, however, from 2004 the publishing house began republishing the novels of the series with a set of new covers.

The unique feature of the novels of the series is that they do not depict their order in their series, but all the novels feature the year in which the particular stories of the Winslow family have taken place. During the course of the description of the Winslow family throughout the series, the author has covered almost all the major historical events of the American history. A few important ones include the American Revolution, the Great Depression, the Civil War, the sinking of the Titanic and many others as well. Author Gilbert Morris has also written a prequel to the series as a trilogy titled ‘Winslow Breed’ series, which depicts the life of the Winslow family prior to the House of Winslow series. In the trilogy, their ways of living during the reigns of a number English Kings and Queens are depicted. The Winslow family has survived the reigns of Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth I and King Henry VIII, as described in the prequel trilogy, which was published between the years 2009 and 2011. Each novel of the House of Winslow series features the heroics of one of the members of the Winslow family. Their dedication to preserve the historical heritage of their country can be easily seen in each and every novel of the series. The series received a great response from the readers as well as the critics for its unique characterizations and eventful plots by the author Gilbert Morris.

One of the initial novels of the series was titled ‘The Shining Badge’, which was published by the Bethany House Publishers in the year 2004. This novel deals with the life of Jennifer Winslow, who seems to experience the luxury as well as the hardships of life through the course of the novel. At first, she had lived one of the finest lives with her prestigious Winslow family. But, Jennifer is forced to experience the difficult part of her life when her family loses everything during a crash in the year 1931. This forces her to move along with her family from a luxurious family house to a small farm in the town of Georgia. Jennifer finds it very difficult to adjust herself to the changed lifestyle. As time passes, she tries to enroll herself for the County Sheriff and through a series of events, she becomes successful in getting the post of the County Sheriff. However, the idea of a female sheriff is not accepted by the citizens, local moonshiners and the gangsters of the town of Georgia. As a result, Jennifer unwillingly makes a few enemies for herself by becoming a female County Sheriff. But, she is determined to serve as the County Sheriff with full dedication and responsibility. Jennifer is supported by a couple of men in her decision to become the County Sheriff. One among them is an idealist and a young lawyer from the town of Georgia and the other is the deputy of Jennifer who seems to be reluctant towards his job. Jennifer faces a tough choice to choose her better half between the two men as she seems to be attracted towards both of them. She struggles to choose the right man that God has made for her, until a deadly shootout that helps her to find the right man for her, but has to go through a bloody battle for it.

One of the other initial novels of the House of Winslow series written by author Gilbert Morris was titled ‘The Pilgrim Song: 1929’ and was published in the year 2006 by the Bethany House Publishers. This novel deals with one of the other members of the Winslow family named Lewis Winslow. The story of Lewis is similar to the wayfarers on the foreign lands, like whom the voyagers learn to sing in their journey. Lewis had all the luxuries of life including money, a large house and a successful business. His life seemed to be in bright future, just when a tragedy happened in his life. He lost his beloved wife. Being depressed by his loss, Lewis thinks that he is going to lose his children, Josh, Kat, Hannah and Jenny as well. While Josh seems to be involved in one or the other thrills of life, Jenny likes to keep herself busy in society parties. Kat, who is a tomboy in nature likes to live in her own world while Hannah has become nothing less than a recluse. Lewis worries a lot about their future and does not know what to do to get their life back on track. Soon, the stock market crashed and the Winslow family got deprived of all the comforts of their life. While living in poverty, they seem to realize that they are living in a foreign land and do not seem to have the strength to make up for their loss. Now, their faith in each other during the time of hardships is the only way they can thrive. They realize the importance of unity in the family and begin to live through unfavorable conditions happily with whatever they were left with. The Winslows begin to care for each other and live happily, which makes their father, Lewis Winslow a tension free man.
