J.L. Abramo is a published author of fiction.

Abramo was born in Brooklyn, New York. He attended City College of New York for his B.A. and the University of Cincinnati for his Masters. He is not just a writer but an actor, journalist, theater artist, and educator.

J.L. Abramo is the creator and the author of the Jake Diamond, Private Investigator series. This fun mystery series kicked off in 2001 with the release of the debut novel. The sequel would come out two years later followed by a third in 2004. The fourth book in the series is titled Circling the Runway and was released in 2015.

Catching Water In A Net is the first book in the Jake Diamond series. If you love exciting mystery books, then check out this interesting debut story in a series about a private eye that takes cases in San Francisco.

Readers get to meet Jake for the first time in this debut. He’s a private investigator that doesn’t mind operating in the gray areas if it gets the job done. Jake doesn’t have it quite together like the private eyes that you see in the movies. Instead of being a snappy dresser with a hat to put on when he leaves the office, he doesn’t really care how he dresses and puts it all together haphazardly.

His lifestyle is just as sloppy and careless, and like many in his field, he’s had the displeasure of experiencing his marriage fall apart. Even though his wife has left him, he has not been doing too bad when it comes to his professional life. He’s really good at what he does, and has the type of friends and contacts that someone like him needs to get leads and solve cases.

His tipsters include everyone from mob bosses to jailbirds and even a police officer that’s able to discreetly run numbers of license plates for him when he wants to. Things have not been going that great lately and Jake has been barely able to make enough money from gigs to pay his bills. Business has been slow, but maybe things will finally start to pick up.

When a woman shows up at Jake’s office, she might be the way to keep his electric on and then some. She wants desperately to be able to track down her husband, who’s missing. She wants to hire Jake to try and find him. The plot thickens when it turns out that her spouse has actually been accused of killing someone.

Jake could certainly use the money. Something that is coming to mind is what his mentor would always say about cases like these. Jimmy Pigeon would always say that when he is asked to help locate someone’s missing spouse, you should turn it down. This private eye nearly does just that. But when he finds out that the victim of the murder in question was his mentor, the great Jimmy Pigeon himself, all bets are off.

Jake tells the woman that he will take the case. Now he is personally invested and who better than to catch Jimmy’s killer than himself? It would be poetic justice, as far as Jake is concerned. He wants to do everything that he can to figure out who did it. As a result, he goes all over the state of California trying to follow leads that take him everywhere from San Francisco all the way to Los Angeles.

The leads are all weak at best, and Diamond is disappointed to find out that they are taking him on a long and slow road to nowhere. Luckily, he is not undertaking this case alone. He has Darlene Roman, his reliable assistant by his side. He also has help from Vinnie Stradivarius, Joey Russo, and various other contacts.

Jake is doing his best to figure out who would want to harm his mentor in the first place. The motive for his death may just be the key to cracking this entire case wide open and catching this killer for good. This private eye is in for a full adventure as he goes on a quest to catch a murderer and put him behind bars for what he did. Can he track down the individual that did this, or will this case get the best of him? You are going to have to pick up the first book in this series to find out!

Clutching At Straws is the second book in the Jake Diamond fictional series of novels. If you loved the suspense and thrills of the first novel, then this is the sequel for you!

Everyone’s favorite private eye is back. Fresh off the heels of a case, Jake Diamond is still the biggest hustler in the detective game. He’s got a new client, and this case is interesting to say the least.

Lefty Wright’s plan was nearly fool proof. He had his entire scheme figured out and thought it was down to a science. He went to the targeted deserted house and got in by way of the kitchen window. His goal was to reach the bedroom and once there, crack the wall safe. He’d then take the envelope and be out before twenty minutes had elapsed.

His total haul would be a thousand bucks for every minute spent inside. Not too bad for an overall score. Lefty never accounted for anything going wrong. It does go wrong, however, and quickly. The cops show up, grab him, and also find a dead body under the bed that turns out to be an important judge in the criminal courts.

Just like that, Lefty is charged with murder in the first degree. With no one left to call, he rings up Jake. Jake sets out to prove that Lefty is innocent. At the same time, he’s looking into a kidnapping as well as a homicide from fifteen years ago. Could they be related to Lefty’s case?

Jake has a few people to talk to, but by the time he reaches them, they’re not in any condition to speak. Will he be able to solve his cases and help his new client too? Read this engaging mystery to find out!
