Jackie Lau
Jackie Lau had decided that she wanted to become a writer during second grade, sometime between writing “The Land of Shapes” and “The Heart That Got Lost”. Jackie would later study engineering and worked as a geophysicist before she turned to writing romance novels.

She hates winter, despite living in Canada her entire life. When she is not busy writing, she enjoys hiking, gelato, gourmet donuts, cooking, and reading out on the balcony while it’s raining.

“Grumpy Fake Boyfriend” is the first novel in the “Kwan Sisters” series and was released in 2018. Will is a simple guy. When he’s not busy writing a science fiction novel, he is reading a book or watching a good movie. Alone. He likes his reclusive life. That is, up until his only friend asks him for a favor, pretend to be his baby sister’s boyfriend for this couples’ getaway. Her ex will be there and she needs Will as a buffer.

Will shoulda said no, but Naomi is energetic, bubbly, and beautiful. She also means everything to her brother. However now, their romance is beginning to feel much too real, and he finds himself stuck between the promise that he made to his friend and risking his heart to the only woman that may actually get him.

“A Match Made For Thanksgiving” is the first novel in the “Holidays with the Wongs” series and was released in 2019. Nick Wong, an advertising executive, enjoys living in Toronto. He loves late nights partying and bringing women back to his penthouse. And so it’s with some great reluctance that he goes back to his boring hometown of Mosquito Bay for Thanksgiving.

But this year’s worse than usual. His interfering grandparents and parents, who are frustrated with the lack of weddings in their family, have invited along blind dates for his three siblings and him. Greg, Nick’s brother, has just been set up with Lily Tseng, who also just so happens to be Nick’s recent one night stand, and the one he cannot get out of his mind.

Even though Nick’s never been too interested in settling down, Lily does have him reconsidering. Possibly he is good for more than just a single night of dumplings, sex, and bubble tea after all. However first, he must get through a painful weekend with his family and convince her that she really should be with him, and not Greg.

“The Ultimate Pi Day Party” is the first novel in the “Baldwin Village” series and was released in 2019. If there is one thing that might get Josh Yu’s father, a retired math teacher, to visit Toronto and have an actual conversation with him for the first time in seventeen years, it is a big nerdy Pi Day party. And hopefully such a party, and seeing the tech company that he built out of nothing, is going to finally be enough to impress him and make his dad forgive Josh for all the crappy things he did as a teen.

However it has to be a truly great party. That is where Sarah Winters comes in. She is the owner of Happy As Pie, a savory and sweet shop, and wants to get into catering. She makes a wonderful lemon lime tart, lamb-rosemary pie, and cherry pie, well you get the idea. She will provide the food and help Josh out planning his party, and nothing more. No matter how much time they spend with each other, he is not going to fall in love with her. At least, that’s what he’s been telling himself.

“Her Big City Neighbor” is the first novel in the “Cider Bar Sisters” series and was released in 2020. When Amy Sharpe (small town engineer) inherits this house in Toronto, she figures this is the perfect chance to start fresh and return to school. Away from the family that just takes her for granted, away from the ex that expected so much and gave so little in return.

This new Amy enjoys wandering around the city and going to German beer halls, bubble tea shops, dim sum restaurants, and coffee bars which serve Japanese pastries. She’s got a roommate with the same name as her favorite fictional character, and this group of friends that meet up at a cider bar every few weeks.

The new Amy is also in lust with Victor Choi, her tattooed and brooding next door neighbor, who’s far from friendly yet looks really hot mowing the grass without a shirt on. Too bad the grass doesn’t grow faster.

While she begins telling him about her daily adventures, and while a little kissing in the garden becomes a regular activity, Amy starts feeling more than just lust. However she is falling into her old patterns in relationships and refuses to allow herself to be under appreciated this time. Is Victor more than just a hot fling? And what could he be hiding under that grumpy exterior?

“Donut Fall in Love” is the first novel in the “Donut Fall in Love” series and was released in 2021. A baker provides the sweetest of escapes for this actor in a charming romantic comedy.

Ryan Kwok, an actor, has returned to Toronto after the promotional tour for his recent film, a rom-com which is getting meager reviews. After his mom’s recent death and years of constantly working, he’s taking some much needed time off. However while trying to be supportive to his family, he struggles with his loss and does not know how to talk to his father, who trolls him now on Twitter rather than meet him for dim sum.

Lindsay McLeod, innovative baker, meets Ryan when he knocks more than two dozen specialty donuts over at her bakery. Their relationship has gotten off to a messy start, yet there is no denying their instant attraction. When Ryan signs up for this celebrity episode of Baking Fail, he asks for Lindsay to teach him how to bake and she says yes.

While they spend more time together, bonding over bubble tea and their grief, it begins to feel as though they’re cooking up something much sweeter than cupcakes in the kitchen.
