Jacqueline Druga is an American author that writes apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction. Druga has written over a hundred novels a number of which feature zombies.

+Biography
Jacqueline Druga hails from Pittsburgh. She has worn numerous artistic hats over the course of her long life. She is a mother, a grandmother, a filmmaker, a musician and, most importantly, an author.

Druga remembers discovering Charlton Heston as a child and not only becoming obsessed with the man’s work but also taking steps to imitate him in her own stories.

Though, she doesn’t believe that Heston sparked her interest in apocalyptic fiction. If she had to impute her passion for the genre to one person, it would have to be her mother who was always afraid that the world was about to end.

The author admits that while the entire genre appeals to her, she has a special love for zombies, with the concept making multiple appearances in her bibliography.

Jacqueline Druga believes that zombies are so frightening yet so popular because the idea of the dead coming back to life and attacking the living has the unique ability to breed a deep-seated fear in the average human being that they are simply incapable of escaping.

Zombies, according to Druga, are rooted in reality, hailing from African religions and cultures that treat the concept of zombies as fact rather than fiction. Add to that equation the reality of death and Druga isn’t surprised that the zombie trend simply refuses to die.

Zombies are a plausible enough threat to cause worry whilst also exiting in a wholly fictional realm that allows authors to mold the concept into any shape they desire. Druga doesn’t believe she will ever tire of writing about zombies.

She also believes that there are plenty of fresh new angles to be explored in the zombie genre, so long as authors like her are willing to keep digging. For all the success she has garnered as an author of zombie novels, Druga has experimented with a wide variety of genres, from Young Adult to Romance, Science Fiction and even comedy.

+Literary Career
Jacqueline Druga started writing when she was ten. At the time, she primarily experimented with poems and short stories. But as she got into her teens, her abilities grew to a point where she could produce full-length novels.

The author still keeps a box of over a dozen manuscripts she wrote as a teen that will never see the light of day. For all the writing she did as a younger person, it was until Druga hit 30 that she began to approach writing as a potentially lucrative career.

At the time, the author was a single mother. And even with two jobs, she was barely making ends meet, what with an infant grandson to care for and an endless stream of utility bills.

It didn’t take much courage on the part of Jacqueline Druga to sit down and write her first true novel. The real work came when she attempted to get her manuscript published. The author was met with rejection wherever she went.

She still has the thousand or so rejections she accumulated in those first few years. To her credit, Druga never stopped writing. She kept churning out new concepts and plots, rewriting and re-editing her work, all in vain.

Her big break came in 2008 when Druga encountered Amazon Kindle and realized that the platform would enable her to get her manuscripts to her readers without the hassle that publishers brought to the table.

By 2010, Druga’s first eBook has landed on Amazon Kindle. The platform changed everything for the author, drawing a strong following of avid readers to her doorstep and allowing her publishing career to finally take off.

Jacqueline Druga is often commended for her strong and realistic characters. As a child, Druga loved reading stories of survival, where people were thrown into impossible situations and they had to change to survive.
The author attempts to create similar situations in her books. Her characters are normally based on people she knows. By basing her cast on real people, Druga believes that she is better placed to accurately imagine how they would realistically react in apocalyptic situations.

A considerable portion of Druga’s writing process is intimately linked with music. The author is as passionate about music as she is about fiction. In fact, Druga has been playing music all her life, sometimes on her own, and other times as part of a band.

So it isn’t so surprising to learn that the author prefers to write while music plays in the background. Druga typically has two or three songs that will not only influence a particular story but which she will also play on repeat for the entire duration of her writing process.

She does all her preparatory work at night, taking the time to outline as she listens to her music. By the time morning comes, the author is ready to write.

+Last Woman
Faye Wills was left for dead. The first thing she sees when she wakes from a coma is the mass grave in which she was buried. She doesn’t know how she got there or why they were all buried in a football stadium.

Besides the flies buzzing around the corpses, she seems to be all alone. Things are no better outside the stadium. From what she can tell, a disease tore across the surface of the planet, and now everyone is just gone.

Faye must gather her strength, find her bearings and then get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding her situation. But for the moment, she cannot help but worry that she is the last person alive on earth.

+My Dead World
When a virus breaks out in India, Nila Carter’s brother, a virologist, tells the family to escape to their weekend cabin. Just when it looks like the virus might subside, the world descends into hell.

People start falling sick. Some die while others begin to display violent mannerisms. Nila, her friends, and family escape to the mountains. There they hope to simply wait in peace and quiet as the virus burns itself out.

However, the group quickly finds that securing resources, keeping their new home safe and combating external threats won’t be quite as easy as they expected.
