Nightwalkers Series

Jacob

Jacob is the first installment in the nightwalkers series by Jacquelyn Frank. In this book Jacob has spent up to seven hundred years hunting demons which had been affected by the moon madness. Since he is always on the road, he does not have time for romantic relations especially with human beings. Things take a twist when a young woman falls out of an apartment window and right into his arms. Since he is devoted to his work, Jacob takes his job as the Demon Enforcer very seriously. As a demon enforcer he has been given the task of hunting and punishing demons that tend to prey on humans. He is always on guard and more than willing to catch any demon which may try and give in to their basic needs. While in his line of work, Jacob does not realise how lonely his life has become, until a raven haired virago falls into his arms while chasing a demon that had been summoned to earth by a necromancer.

On seeing the woman, Jacob becomes stunned. Suddenly, the lady in Jacob’s arms moves and Jacob realizes that the lady who is in his arms can smell and sense the demon who he is chasing. During daytime, Isabella works as a librarian and at night she works as a moon watcher. One day while watching the moon, Isabella takes note of a man who is watching her. When the man spoke, Isabella could hear his words very clearly despite the fact that the man was 5 floors below her. She suddenly falls out of the window and into the man’s arms. Upon landing into the man’s arms she immediately forgets the terror of falling down from the fifth floor. The man finally places Isabella on the floor and introductions are made. While talking to Jacob, Isabella starts to feel a little bit discomfort. She stops for a moment, then leads Jacob the demon was hiding.

On arriving at the warehouse, they come face to face with the demon that Jacob was chasing. The demon begins by attacking Jacob and Isabella is left by the demon fighting for her dear life. She decides to pick up an iron bar and throws it at the demon. Immediately, the demon is engulfed by a fire and burns into ashes. Jacob goes to where Isabella was and drugs her out of the house. Jacob takes time to explain to Isabella who the demon was. He then puts Isabella into a deep sleep and then carries her home. Later on, Isabella finally wakes up. She is introduced to other demons who take their time to narrate their stories and ordeal Isabella. Due to her powers, Isabella is given access to Noah’s library for research purposes. The demons present try to understand how Isabella is able to kill other demons and also how she is able to connect telepathically to Jacob.

As time goes by, Isabella and Jacob start to fall in love and cannot their hands off each other. But since Isabella is a human being and Jacob is a demon, they cannot engage in any sexual activity because it is forbidden by law. While working in the library, Isabella finds something that could change the course of things, within the vaults. With that being said, this book is not only intense but also action packed in every way. As a reader, you will not be able to put this book down once you begin reading it. Apart from that, the author was able to infuse demon folklore in the book while at the same time still giving the demon’s a human touch. All in all, this is definitely a must read.

Gideon

In this book, we are introduced to Gideon who has just lost control and paid it dearly at the enforcer’s hands. While still finding his path, he keeps on crossing paths with a very beautiful and confusing demon Magdalena. As one of the oldest living demon, Gideon has almost experienced everything, but there is nothing that will prepare him for Legna. Due to his experience and age, self-control is something that should come naturally to him. But from time to time, he becomes confronted with the maddening moods of Legna. Unknown to Gideon, Legna hasn’t still forgiven Gideon for that fateful night. It still lingers in her memories like it was yesterday. Whenever she sees Gideon, her rage and temper begins to rise up.

Can Gideon be so clueless to how he had hurt her before? But with each encounter, Legna realizes that Gideon is her destined lover. Regardless as to whether they were destined to be together or not, she still refuses to give up herself to a man who is not willing to commit himself to her, body and soul. Once a friend is attacked, they are once again brought together and are forced to embrace their growing bond. But is the bond between the two strong enough to overpower the deep secrets that Gideon harbors? Is Legna going to understand and forgive Gideon regardless of everything? Is Gideon going to forgive himself? From the first novel, Legna captured our hearts. Her charm, warmth and grace were all evident whenever they met with Jacob.

On the other hand Gideon does not seem to understand why everything that he says or does with Magdalene appears to be wrong. In this book we also see the return of Jacob and Isabella who were the main characters in the first book. Despite the fact that they came as supporting characters, their story still figures prominently.

Could it be possible to list them in reading order.
These novels are very, very good. So thrilling to read, and that says a lot, because I usually do not read this genre at all.
It’s too bad she hasn’t written anything in so long.
