Jaden Skye is an American author best known for the writing of bestselling contemporary romance novels, which also fit the narrower definition of romantic suspense. Her most popular novel series the “Caribbean Murder” series debuted with the 2011 published “Death by Honeymoon’ that was an instant bestseller. With over 16 novels written over the course of less than five years, the novel series is still ongoing. Another of her series is “Murder in The Keys”, “Killing Game”, and “Toms River Saga”. She has also written the “A Perfect Stranger” series among several freestanding novels that have been just as successful as her flagship series. From a very young age, Jaden Skye was intrigued by deception, lies, wrongful death, and the power of truth to prevail. As such, these are the typical dominant themes in most of her works. Her romantic mystery/suspense novels usually feature a strong female protagonist who generally overcomes significant odds. By overcoming these odds, they get to the essence of love and justice, often at the very end of the novel.

Jaden Skye’s “Caribbean Murder” series of novels feature the same lead character named Cindy, though each novel in the series may be read as a standalone. The novels in the series do not have to be read in order as they have different plot lines. The lead character in the series is a strong willed woman who solves mysteries that she responds to on the phone. For the most part, she helps family and friends resolve mysterious disappearances or murders of their spouses. Her mysteries typically involve her engaging either a friend, boyfriend, or husband who is embroiled in some type of criminal activity or suspicion of criminal activity connected in some way to their death or disappearance. In some instances, the quest for the resolution of a mystery is all about bringing a murderer of a loved one to justice or stopping some wide reaching or well-concealed criminal activity.

The novels in the series are cross genre narrative combining romance, mystery, and crime into one explosive story. The life of Cindy the lead character and particularly her romantic relationships and escapades provide the romantic spice of the novels in the midst of all the investigations into mysterious happenings. These are novels of suspense, betrayal, heartbreak, tragedy, and love that make for excellent fireside reads with their well plotted story lines. She provides excellent background to her characters including the lead Cindy and her supporting cast to make for a fascinating explanation of the motivation of their actions. Taking some of the most mundane themes, Skye writes gritty novels with strong plots even if there is no police procedure or specialized forensic science involved. With no steamy sex scenes, the “Caribbean Murder” mysteries still manage to provide delicious romance stories and a gripping mystery in their many plots and subplots. While similar novels would have a soap opera like, low key feel to them, the novels captures the romance and mystery mood really well by appealing to human emotion and philosophical decisions taken by the lead character.

“Death by Honeymoon” is set in the wild rugged eastern shores of Barbados, where Clint and Cindy are spending their dream honeymoon, when all hell breaks loose. Cindy suddenly finds herself all alone after Clint is swept away in a freak accident while out at sea. The police quickly rush to register the incident as an accident, by reporting that a sudden riptide had swept the man away. Cindy is not convinced by the explanation, especially given the fact that she is now all alone. She must now head back to New York, to Clint’s shell of a home and his parents that had never wanted Clint to have anything to do with her. They had done everything to scuttle the engagement and wedding with no success. She now has to deal with the unspoken accusations, gossiping and backbiting, as she deals with her own grief and tries to get to the bottom of what happened to her husband. Out of the blue, she gets mail addressed to her deceased husband that has the photo of a strange woman. Trying to unravel the mystery of the package, she digs into Clint’s files and emails and realizes just how secretive the man she had married had been. She realizes that she knew almost nothing about the man she had loved and married, and realizes that his death was no accident. Cindy is soon investigating DGB oil, Clint’s conglomerate, and discovers that she may have just gone too far. Her life is now under threat, and she is forced to flee. To find out what really happened to her husband and resolve the mystery she knows that she has to go back to Barbados, where it all began. What she will uncover will shock her to the very core.

“Death by Divorce” the second novel in the series opens to Cindy called in to help an old friend whose husband has disappeared. Fresh from the loss of her own husband, she now heads to the lush and gorgeous island of Grenada, to try to track down the missing man. She stays at her friend’s large villa by the beach, and spends her days interviewing different characters on the island. The people on the island are a diverse mix of fantastically rich persons who are often involved in dodgy business dealings and romantic affairs with each other, that they all love to keep secret. As she digs deeper, she soon learns that underneath the tranquil appearance of the island is an intricate web of drugs, odd money deals, and secret affairs. The missing man is not so clean, as Cindy finds a whole treasure trove of secrets that his wife never knew anything about. In the beginning, the police do not take her sleuthing and discoveries seriously. However, as her determination, courage, intelligence, and effectiveness at unearthing evidence begins to shine through, they begin showing her the respect she deserves. One unexpected relationship develops between Cindy and Mattheus, a tall and handsome cop that had been among the most incredulous about her efforts. But as Cindy digs deeper into the complex web of crime and romance on the island she soon pokes an angry bear and finds her life in danger. What follows is a shocking development that neither Mattheus, Cindy or her friend could ever have imagined.
