Author Jake Bible was born in Bellevue, Washington and writes horror and science fiction. He hosts a writing podcast. Jake found that individual drabbles could be moved around in order to control the pacing and the timing of a narrative to tell a bigger story. This allowed him to invent the Drabble novel.
He has written the “ScarScapes” series, the “Mega” series, the “Roak: Galactic Bounty Hunter” series, the “Reign of Four” series, the “Apex” series, and the “Z-Burbia” series.
Jake Bible was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award in the Superior Achievement in a Young Adult Novel category in the year 2015.
“Z-Burbia” is the first novel in the “Z-Burbia” series, which was released in the year 2013. Whispering Pines is a quiet, private, and classic subdivision; it is located on the edge of Asheville, North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a pristine piece of land. It is a good place to be since the zombie apocalypse has made its way to Western North Carolina and is now putting to the test living in the suburbs!
The residents of Whispering Pines are surrounded on all sides by the undead. They have quickly adapted their way of life to include scavenging parties, instead of their usual block parties. Instead of neighborhood beautification, they are now fortifying it. Rather than common area groundskeeping, they now do immediate area warfare.
Either in the best of times, or the worst, living in the suburbs is going to have its ups and downs. All the nosy neighbors, the property management company that strictly interprets the covenants of the HOA, and the quite strict Home Owners’ Association, of course. Since the zombie apocalypse hit town, these daily irritations are making things dramatic struggles to survive, for your own personal identity, and keeping your own family safe.
Some found this to be better than quite a few zombie books and there are some seriously funny parts in this one. Fans of the novel found this to be a highly entertaining view of what the zombie apocalypse would look like if it should actually happen. Readers can’t get enough of the characters (like Elsbeth and Jace), even though many of them are probably going to end up dead at some point.
“Parkway to Hell” is the second novel in the “Z-Burbia” series, which was released in the year 2013. From early in the 1900s until Z-Day, the Grove Park Inn was where the well to do went while vacationing in Asheville, North Carolina. All kinds of people have stayed there over the years; from F. Scott Fitzgerald to Barack Obama. Diplomats, masters of industry, artists, and actors have called the place home temporarily at some point in time. This all happened before the zombies. Now this luxury inn (made of stone, wood, and brick) is home to a new element. An element that is heavily armed and unknown.
Since Whispering Pines is being built up again, all Jace “Long Pork” Stanford has to do is to see who the newcomers are. That’s when he is not busy dealing with all the zombie hordes. Or trying to outrun the paramilitary mercenaries trying to kill him. Maybe even blow up more of the city, which is still zombie infested, simply because he can’t stop himself from pressing buttons. Buttons have to be pressed, even during an apocalypse, right? It seems like another day in Z-Burbia!
Fans of the novel found that they were glad they finally gave this one a shot. It features great characters, strong story, not to mention the humorous moments. The book is a great blend of drama, action, and humor (which is not as present in most zombie books). The character of Elsbeth is developing quite nicely, and it would be nice to learn more about her.
“Estate of the Dead” is the third novel in the “Z-Burbia” series, which was released in the year 2014. Jace Stanford has lost a lot; his arm, his family, and his friends. All because of the zombie apocalypse. He has gotten new allies, a renewed purpose, and a cannibal savant called Elsbeth (which he never thought would ever be a good thing).
They are currently facing certain destruction from the Constortium, Jace requires Elsbeth’s help more than he ever has. Will she be up to the task when her past is finally revealed? It might be more shocking than even the zombie apocalypse itself.
He might just find out the hard way. During the zombie apocalypse, that probably means that a lot of people are going to die.
Readers cannot get enough of these books, hoping the books continue coming as quickly as possible. Fans of the novel love the twists and turns and tons of action, it all makes this one fun thrill ride of a read. One of the best zombie books that some have ever read. Each of the books gets darker each time out, luckily the humor lightens things up.
“Cannibal Road” is the fourth novel in the “Z-Burbia” series, which was released in the year 2014. Forced out of Asheville, North Carolina, all of Jace’s family, and the convoy of criminals, soldiers, misfits, and suburbanites fight their way over the I-40 corridor that was Eastern Tennessee.
When they get separated from their loved ones in the city of Knoxville. The Sanford family has to rely on their skills to fight off some insane Vols fans, Zs, cannibal gangs (the most deadly gang you can encounter), and killer sorority girls.
They are no longer trying to stay alive by the day. Now they are trying to keep from being killed by the minute and hour. By the inch and foot, all while they flee down what is called Cannibal Road.
Fans of the novel enjoy reading about these great characters, who make it easy to root for them, and they are well fleshed out as well as well written. Each and every book is just as good as the last one he does. Elspeth is, for some, the best character of the series, she is loyal to a fault and is able to kick a lot of ass. All while she maintains her innocence.
