The Hellfire Club is the first novel in the Charlie and Margaret Marder Mystery series by Jake Tapper. Check out this exciting political novel that will have readers turning the page to find out what happens next and see the story that David Baldacci praised as being a ‘potent’ thriller. This novel focuses on a Congressman as he accidentally begins to bear witness to the political underworld that exists in D.C. in the fifties.

Meet main character Charlie Marder, a man who never had any intention of being in the public eye. His family history and ties meant that he somehow got pushed into office and now he’s a Congressman. All thanks to the fact that the person that came before him decided to vacate the seat, albeit not voluntarily. In fact, they died under what could be described as mysterious circumstances.

Now Charlie’s got to try and survive in the climate of Washington, D.C. in the 1950s, no easy feat. The city’s dangerous, especially for someone involved in politics. His wife is a zoologist that wants to have his own career and he supports her on that. But when a car accident turns fatal, Margaret and Charlie somehow seem to be ushered into a world that they never knew existed.

Amid secret society gatherings, backroom deals, and conspiracies, the Congressman is witness to the underworld that he never before knew or even thought about. When he finds out about a conspiracy that could go straight to the top, he must decide whether his career, ethics, and life are worth fighting for, because they’re all in danger. What will happen? The Devil May Dance is the second novel in the Charlie and Margaret Marder Mystery series by Jake Tapper. When readers last left Charlie and his wife, the pair were contending with D.C. and its shady operations. Now they’ve both become stars on the political scene in the nation’s capital. But even though it’s the swinging sixties, they remain fully aware of how deadly and how dangerous the web of power can be.

Meanwhile, Robert Kennedy is the acting Attorney General and is requesting that the Marders investigate a threat. It could not only be a threat to the President but the very safety of the nation. Charlie and Margaret don’t know what else to do but agree, with it being their patriotic duty to try and help. Before they know it, they’re in the skies and flying to Los Angeles, home of the movie stars and the big Hollywood studios.

Charlie and Margaret must investigate Frank Sinatra, who is rumored to be linked up with the mob and is also known for being a pal of the President. To get more information, the couple plan to make his acquaintance and develop a friendship. However, Hollywood is a town of promises, dreams, and mirages, and befriending the singer may be difficult. They’re soon hanging out with the Rat Pack, but things take a turn when they discover a dead body in their vehicle.

Soon the two are being chased by all sorts of groups in Hollywood. In a town full of secrets, greed, dirty deeds, and power, can they make progress before it’s too late? Find out by reading The Devil May Dance!
