About James A. Hunter

Known for writing fantasy and paranormal novels, the American author James A. Hunter is well regarded for his imaginative stories. With readers from all around the world appreciating his work, he’s achieved a huge level of success through his writing and stories. Grabbing readers almost instantly, he takes them on a journey, something which he does exceptionally well every step of the way. Mainly known for writing with the GameLit subgenre too, many of his books are set within virtual gaming environments too, which has become a speciality of his.

Taking place in gaming worlds, many of his stories are based around the concept of the imagination itself and how it plays out. Some of his books use an Urban Fantasy template as well, as he establishes a more brooding sense ambiance and atmosphere. Early and Personal Life

Growing up with a keen interest in both reading and writing, James A Hunter, aka JA Hunter would develop a passion for literature. Over time he would harness his love of the craft, creating a style and voice all of his very own, allowing him to find a place within the industry. With a wealth of experience, he brings plenty to draw from as inspiration when it comes to his work too, making it highly authentic and genuine.

Previously serving as a Marin Corp Sergeant for the United States Army, James A Hunter is a combat veteran as well as a pirate hunter. He’s also an active member of The Royal Order of the Shellback, while working both as a missionary and as an international aid worker situated in Bangkok. Currently a father, he’s stay-at-home with his two kids, whilst also writing full-time, with lots more to come on the horizon.

Writing Career

It was in 2015 that James A. Hunter would release his first novel, publishing the title ‘Strange Magic,’ which was also the first in the ongoing ‘Yancy Lazarus’ fantasy series. The following year in 2016 he would go on to create the ‘Viridian Gate Archives’ series as JA Hunter, which would be set within the GameLit fantasy subgenre. He would also publish a number of other similar fantasy and science-fiction series, with virtual-reality becoming a recurring theme for him. Gaining a huge audience worldwide, he maintains a presence both online and off, as his writing profile continues to grow.

Red Reckoning

Arriving to much fanfare on the Kindle back in 2020, this would arrive on the 21st of December to meet an already eager audience. Setting up the sixth title in the Yancy Lazarus series of books, it would carry on with another adventure for the mage to deal with. Combining fantasy with elements of mystery, this has lots of humor and wit in it too, as it’s a story that’s both entertaining and funny in equal measure.

A bluesman and a mage, Yancy Lazarus has returned from the Hell to find the Guild of the Staff is now broken. With the pact between the supernatural nations breaking down, and his friends being hunted too, it’s time for Yancy to restore some order to the chaos. But then there’s Morrigan the Irish War Walker, and she’s got a new ritual that could herald the end of humanity once and for all. Can Yancy use his magic to save the day, will he be able to restore order, and what will become of the red reckoning?

It’s an exciting entry into the series making for a lot of fun escapism, as it really captures the energy of the previous books and raises it throughout. There’s plenty of characters to play off Yancy, as they all come alive, making it both a vibrant and colorful world to explore. The city setting is well realized too, with its Urban Fantasy formula used extremely well every step of the way.

Darkling Siege

This time being released through the ‘Shadow Alley Press’ publishing imprint, this book would come out in 2020 on the 28th of January. It would be the seventh title in the ongoing series ‘Viridian Gate Online,’ which would be set firmly within the GameLit fantasy genre. With elements of science-fiction, it’s a series set in a somewhat post-apocalyptic future, using a virtual-reality fantasy world as its basis.

Set within the digital online world of Viridian Gate Online, many of the remaining population of Earth have cast their minds there to escape certain annihilation. Jack Mitchel, aka Grim Jack, now leads Eldgard’s united armies, facing off against the hordes of Vogthar pouring onto their material plane. Threatening the entire digital world, Jack must now battle against the odds to save life as he now knows if from complete destruction. Will he be able to manage it and save the day, what will become of them all, and can he face off against the Darkling Siege?

These books definitely need to be read in order, as it’s definitely a series with plenty of cliffhangers running throughout. The characters are all well developed by this point, with the world they inhabit also being extremely well established too. Making for a highly engaging story, the book ensures that the reader wants to come back for more, as there’s always a new and exciting surprise just around the corner.
