This is the debut story from Sie that is all about a young man who is looking for clues as to why his mother disappeared just twelve years earlier and who has found himself in the process of searching for them.

Walter Stahl wants to be an artist. He’s recently graduated from high school, and he resides with his sick father in Las Vegas, somewhere in the dregs of the city. Their lives have been completely overshadowed at this point by Walter’s mother disappearing.

When he was five years old she drove off and she never came back. Walter has not seen even a photo of his mother at this point, but that doesn’t matter. No matter where he goes he looks for her. Even when he is catering to the tourist groups on the Strip he is always keeping an eye out for her in case he glimpses her and recognizes her.

Walter eventually meets Acacia and Chrysto. They are a sister and a brother team who are paying the bills by working as living statues at the Venetian Hotel. Meeting them cracks his world wide open. He spends less time tending to his father and is increasingly drawing and taking a ride on the back of a Vespa.

His feelings for Chrysto start to get even deeper as they spend more time together, and there are more clues as to why his mother have gone missing. As more of them come out, he has to come up against the truth not only about his family history but about himself, too.

This is a wonderful story of coming of age and they are accompanied by beautiful graphic illustrations. It shows how his mother who was born in Vietnam and played the accordion left her family behind to chase her own vision across the country and how her father went looking for her in the Venetian Hotel and more. An incredible story where the mundane meets the magical and nothing is real but all is illuminated.
