Author Jane Ashford (which is a pen name for Jane Nancy LeCompte) found Georgette Heyer’s work while in junior high and was captivated by the glitter and wit found that can be found in Regency England. Being delighted by this work was partially responsible for her studying English literature and travel all over Europe and Britain. She has lived in three big cities in her life: Boston, Los Angeles, and New York; later on in her life, she has become a little bit of a nomad. She was born on August 20, 1948.

She made her debut in fiction in the year 1980, when “Gwendeline” was released. She made the jump to writing a romance series in the year 2016 when “Heir to the Duke” was released, it is book one in her series of novels chronicling the sons that the Duke of Langford has. It is a stand alone series, held together by the fact that the books are about children from the same family.

Jane writes contemporary and historical romance novels, and her novels have been published all over the world. RT Book Reviews nominated her twice for a Career Achievement Award. She has published books under the Jane LeCompte name, and Jane Ashford name.

“Heir to the Duke ” is the first novel in “The Duke’s Sons” series and was released in the year 2016. Nathaniel Gresham’s life is all about his duty to his family. He is the Viscount Hargrove, not to mention, handsome. He is the eldest son his father has and his identity is and always has been as the heir to Duke of Langford. His muted and steady life is changed right when he gets married to Lady Violet Devere, a sweet woman.

Violet’s family restrained her for her entire life and she has been wanting to get married since she can remember. The match of her and Nathaniel was not one that was made for love, but they still cannot wait for the freedom that will be offered to them in their time married to each other. Violet wants to show Nathaniel how he can enjoy the whole thing. Either when they are in or out of the bedroom.

Fans of the novel found this to be a solid read, and Nathaniel is a strong character with a strength that is there at all times but is subtle; especially the way he defends Violet against the attacks her family lays on her. Some also like how Violet transforms in the novel from a timid mouse into a fierce tiger in the book, loving the character that she becomes later on. Her journey is one that some enjoyed reading about.

“What the Duke Doesn’t Know” is the second novel in “The Duke’s Sons” series and was released in the year 2016. Lord James Gresham is the Duke of Langford’s youngest son and a captain, serving in the Royal Navy. He has no idea what he should do next, after making his fortune. Maybe it is time for him just to settle down, find a good wife and set up his nursery for his children. The seas are beckoning him, as a dark beauty with a heart full of revenge is pulled into his life.

Kawena Benson (who is half-Polynesian and half-English) wants to get vengeance for her dad and get some jewels that were stolen back. James can only protest to her that he is innocent and try to help her find the jewels she is looking for. Even though the whole search capsizes his whole world in the process.

Fans of the novel liked Kawana, and found that she was a great add to the series of the sons; not to mention, being refreshing and not caring at all about being proper, instead is only herself. It was interesting to see her try to fit in to a lifestyle that was completely different for her. This is a great romance that have together; it is touching, fun, sexy, and full of adventure.

“Lord Sebastian’s Secret” is the third novel in “The Duke’s Sons” series and was released in the year 2017. Lord Sebastian is great at military strategy and has been tested in battle as a soldier. He has always had to hide his inability to figure out letters. He believes that he is only stupid. It is a miracle then that he should find the very perfect bride.

Lady Georgina Stane is gorgeous, brilliant, and funny. Sebastian finds himself head over heels in love with her, yet terrified. If she should find out his secret, he might lose her forever.

Some like the novel more than the previous books in the series, and it is rare, in the sense that the book starts with someone’s engagement being announced. Fans of the novel enjoyed reading about Sebastian this time around, and see him as being a caring and delightful character; some even found they fell in love with him too. This is a nice story with interesting characters within it.

“Nothing Like a Duke” is the fourth novel in “The Duke’s Sons” series and was released in the year 2017. Lord Robert Gresham does not see a way for Flora Jennings to ever take him seriously. He tries to forget her for awhile at an exclusive party, but she ruins these plans, when she turns up at the party. This is something that he does not expect to happen.

The evil Anthony Durand comes to the party and he threatens Flora, which complicates the romance Robert and Flora try to have. Every instinct that Robert has says that he should step in to save Flora. He will have to figure out that some damsels are able to save their own skins when they are in distress. Especially if he would like to have her heart.

Fans felt themselves loving the relationship that captures Robert; as he could speak what he felt and actually be heard. The novel warms the heart, charms, and you will see that it is worth getting to know the characters, especially Plato (which is the puppy that Robert gets). This is a well written story that does not require you to read the other books to understand all of what is going on, even with the plot lines from other books showing up in this installment.

Chronological order is different from publication order. Chronologically, the last book (Favor for the Prince) should be read first. Thank you for all you do!

That was the very early name for the book series that ended up being called The Way to a Lord’s Heart.
