Jane B. Mason is an American published author. She is known for writing in the science fiction genre as well as children’s fiction books and young adult romance.

The author grew up in northern Minnesota as part of a big family. She was born in Duluth and was one of the younger members of her family. When she was younger she loved to spend time finding trees to climb, building snow forts, and going swimming in the local Lake Superior.

Jane lives in Oakland, California with her husband and they live close to fellow author and frequent collaborator Sarah Hines-Stephens. They both have children and when they aren’t spending time with the kids, they’re busy writing books, often times together! These include The Sister Switch, the Candy Apple books, and Snowfall Surprise, among others. They have also written several series together, such as the Rescue Dogs series, the Dog and His Girl mystery series, the Bella Baxter series, the Zoey 101 books, and The Princess School series.

On her own and with others, she has written books for readers of all ages. She has used different author names for some of them and has written about a variety of topics, from princesses to Jedi, ghosts, dinosaurs, twins, Wonder Woman, super pets, Star Trek, mean girls, detective pairs, and more.

The author has resided in different places, on both coasts of the United States and the Midwest, from New York to Connecticut and California. She now lives in California, which affords her the chance to write often. She writes on a near every day basis and does so either in her backyard studio or somewhere like the dining room table of a friend. In her studio, she has a loveseat, books, and a trinket collection she’s been putting together since she was young.

Jane loves reading and writing. She also has other passions outside of literature. These include going swimming in very cold water. She loves being outside in nature in places like an orchard or a patch of berries, picking berries so that she can make jam. She loves having a good book on hand paired with a cup of strong Assam tea and jam on toast, ideally after going for a chilly swim.

Jane first got into writing when she was younger. As a teen, she would fill up tons of journals with her writing. She would attend Hamilton College and study creative writing. Upon graduating, she moved to New York City. There she worked at a publishing house as an editorial assistant. She kept working there and eventually was promoted to editor, working and doing smaller writing jobs when she had time.

The author would move to California and she worked for LucasFilm for a brief amount of time before deciding to pursue writing on a full time basis. She loves writing books that all readers can enjoy but loves writing about the ‘tricky stuff’ when it comes to being a human. Her goal is to help the readers, characters and herself make some sense out of the world and themselves, hopefully with a bit of laughter as they go.

She loves hanging out with her family and spending time with her three kids and husband and the family dog.

Jane B. Mason is the co-creator and co-author of the Princess School series for young readers. The series first became available to readers in 2004 with the publication of the first book, If the Shoe Fits. This was then followed by the second novel, Who’s The Fairest? The third book in this series is titled Let Down Your Hair, followed by the fourth book, Beauty Is a Beast. The fifth novel in the series is Princess Charming, followed by Apple-y Ever After, and the seventh book, Thorn in Her Side.
