The Silent Corner is the debut novel in Dean Koontz’s Jane Hawk series. This first novel is a series that introduces readers to a heroine that they may find intriguing and might just become a suspense icon. When a man takes his own life, everyone is shocked by the words that he leaves behind.
Most affected of all by his death is Jane Hawk, who has suddenly become his widow. This man had everything in life to keep going on for, but he committed suicide in the end (or at least appeared to). The last words that he said alluded to needing to be dead, and Jane is chilled by them.
In the aftermath of his death, Jane Hawk experiences a wide range of emotions. She feels anger, grief, sadness, fury, and more in the wake of his death and she is determined to investigate the situation more. She does not feel resolved about it at all, and she is going to do her very best to find out the truth of the situation.
It may turn out that Jane’s husband is not alone. Perhaps it’s the fact that it affected her directly through her husband, but Jane is starting to look around and see that more people are seeming to commit suicide than ever. Not just people that are going through something, but people that have good careers. People that seem to be on good ground and that could even be described as happy.
Jane wants to find out why these people are suddenly deciding to leave the material plane in numbers that seem higher than usual. The widow is on a quest to find out what exactly is going on, if anything. Who knows? It could be nothing.
But as she goes on that journey to know why, Jane Hawk is about to find out that she is one of the most wanted people in America as she has been deemed a fugitive. People in positions of power are doing what they can to keep a secret that is so scary and so important that they will do anything to keep it under wraps. Even if that means taking out people for good.
Even though Jane is clever and more than capable of finding out more, there are forces working against her that are more ruthless than she could ever be. Will she fall victim to their motives, or can she make it through to find out the truth once and for all? Read this compelling first novel from Dean to find out!
The Whispering Room is the second novel in the Jane Hawk series by Dean Koontz. If you loved the first novel of this series featuring the bold and fearless Jane Hawk, then you are guaranteed to enjoy this sequel in the action and adventure packed series.
When Jane Hawk comes up against a deadly conspiracy, this fearless heroine is going to have to draw from all of her resourcefulness to take on this battle and a new situation. She’s had to deal with a lot ever since the suicide of her husband that pulled their world apart. That was something that caused her a lot of pain, and caused her to look into something– a rash of suicides that never seemed to make sense.
Now Jane has a bit of experience in investigations, as well as conspiracies. Now Jane is back and investigating a strange case of a schoolteacher that commits suicide. Cora Gundersun takes her life and others’ lives as well in a violent act that is just pure violent carnage and bloodshed. Little does anyone know that the mild teacher was hearing a voice in her head, the words telling her to do what she was ‘born to do’ and promising her fame after doing it.
Jane is the only one to think that she is not totally insane when her journal is found. That’s because she has experience with ruthless people playing God with people’s heads. Jane has found out about a cabal that believe themselves to be beyond punishment and above the law. These people are highly dangerous and motivated by their own greed and pursuit of self-gain.
They are interested in trading in the future of a country for their own gain. But at the same time, they never saw the fact that an FBI agent would be willing to go off the grid to take them down. Even if they have to become a fugitive and America’s most wanted in the process.
Can one person’s actions be enough to take an insidious plan and send it crashing sideways? These people never thought that one individual would be a threat to their power plans, but that’s because no one ever has before. Now, thanks to a tech breakthrough, they have plans to go for absolute power– and stand a very real chance of getting it.
Jane still loves her husband, and her son, just five years old. He’s in hiding, and Jane has a job to do. Can she track down the bad guys before they get away? Most likely, but find out for yourself by picking up this book and seeing what happens in the end and checking out the other books in this series.
