Janelle Mowery is a bestselling author who writes in the Inspirational, Romance, Mystery, Historical Romance, and Cozy Mystery genres. Since 1998, she wrote and coordinated for “The Invisible Connection,” the website of a Children’s Ministry organization. When the owner of the site discontinued the website and ministry in the year 2000, she decided to transmit her inspirational messages through fictional novels. In 2002, she joined the American Christian Fiction Writers and is now an active leader and member of their critique groups that have offered tons of opportunities for development and growth. She entered her first contest in 2003 when she submitted a short story to the Noble Theme Contest where she ranked in the top ten in the historical category. She got her big break when “Romancing the Christian Heart” an e-magazine published “Fair Chance” a short story she published in 2004. In 2005, she entered the “Writing Smarter Contest” by the San Gabriel Writers’ League and the novel made first place.
Mowery signed her first professional contract with Barbour Publishing in 2006, as she became a member of the “Heartsong Presents Mysteries” line. Where the “Truth Lies” the debut novel that she wrote alongside Elizabeth Ludwig was published in 2008. With her first novel becoming so successful, she made it into the “Massachusetts Mayhem Mystery” series. Since 2011, she has been with Harvest House and the publishing house has been responsible for the publishing of her Colorado set historical series. The first novel of the “Colorado Runaway” series “When All My Dreams Come True” was published in 2011. The novel went on to receive critical acclaim and become a bestselling title. She has also signed a publishing deal with Summerside Press and has since then contributed to the novel Romantic Times four-star reviewed novel “Silver City, Idaho.” Janelle Mowery has been married for more than two decades and has two children from her marriage. She is an active member of her church where she serves in the teen program and also as treasurer.
Janelle Mowery’s debut novel “Where the Truth Lies” came about when she asked Elizabeth Ludwig if she would be interested in writing a mystery with her. They tried all manner of ideas but nothing seemed to work until Lisa called her one day with an interesting idea. She just had an interesting conversation about Esau and Jacob and she thought they could work together to make the idea into a great relationship mystery. They took the idea and over several weeks they transformed into a bestselling contemporary mystery novel. Since they were writing together, they had to divvy up the work so that they would not get in each other’s way. They divided the characters and then set out to write from their different points of view. But since they knew their characters so well, their writing seems so cohesive and they could have flipped and no one could have been able to tell the difference. They then critiqued each other’s scenes such that they had blended their writing styles and voices by the time it came to publishing the novel.
While it may seem that Janelle was successful right out the gate, she had a long road to publication just like many of her contemporaries. She remembers reading a novel and thinking that she could write a novel. However, she carried the idea for a story in her head for several months, thinking, and planning. It was not until the beginning of 2001 that she got down to writing and has never stopped ever since. Janelle never tried to contract the several manuscripts she wrote during this time until she became a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers. Once she was a member and started attending their conferences, she met a lot of aspiring and successful writers that reignited her passion for getting published. It was in 2006 that Mowery got a call from an agent who said that she was interested in selling the contemporary mystery novel she had co-authored with Elizabeth Ludwig. As expected, she was overjoyed and nearly had heart palpitations as her heart hammered in her chest. Soon after, she called her friend Lisa to tell her of the offer and they squealed together like teenagers before they told the good news to everyone they knew. It was almost five years since Janelle write the first word in her first manuscript that she got to sign her first professional contract.
Janelle Mowery’s “Where the Truth Lies” is the story of Casey Alexander who is not convinced by the police report that says that her aunt committed suicide. She is convinced that in the small town where her aunt lived lurks a dangerous killer and she is determined to get to the bottom of it. She decides to investigate the case and is so successful that she soon finds herself in danger as she gathers more evidence. Casey will have to trust some of the people in the small town for help including Luke Kerrigain, a local nursery owner. She has recently been falling in love with Luke but he may also be her stalker. Prompted by a mysterious stranger and bizarre clues, she continues digging and what she discovers threatens not only the peace of the small community but could also turn their lives upside down. What is particularly huge is the discovery that lies can sometimes have an element of truth hidden in them. With several turns and twists, it is an intricately woven story that makes for a compelling mystery read.
Mowery’s “Died in the Wool” is the story of Monah Trenary a woman whose life is thrown into chaos when someone is found murdered in her bathroom. Naturally, she is the prime suspect in the killing. But she is determined not to go down for a crime she did not commit and teaming up with Casey her fellow amateur sleuth and faithful sidekick they get down to investigating. They learn that the detective assigned to the case is Mike who happens to be Monah’s boyfriend. With such a team on the case, this is going to be one hell of an adventure as they bring their different perspectives to bear. Janelle Mowery and Elizabeth Ludwig combine to make an intriguing mystery that will have their readers on the edge of their seats.
Janelle Mowery’s “Inn Plain Sight” is Casey Alexander’s story. She is investigating a murder in which someone had been killed in her shower. As soon as she starts her investigations, she learns that the victim has a propensity for gossip, blackmail and downright meanness. Unfortunately, she thinks that the most evidence points to Casey as the prime suspect. Using her Post-It-Notes and her best friend she trawls through the evidence to find a killer in the unlikeliest of places. It is a novel full of twists and turns with dark and shadowy activities that make for a great story.
