Writing historical and contemporary romance fiction, Janna MacGregor is an author who has managed to achieve a high level of success in a relatively short amount of time, all due to her fresh and unique take on an old format, that at once seems both relevant as well as timeless, providing fairy tales in a sense that involve real people that resonate with the readers. With a background in law as well, she is also a practicing attorney, having worked alongside her husband who is also an attorney, as she writes her romance fiction in the evening, something which she continues to do as she balances them alongside each other, all whilst looking after her family too.
Knowing and understanding her audience she has a clear comprehension of what each story needs and requires, as she is able to ensure that the narrative fits the requirements of the characters and vice versa. Not only that but she has also been able to inject a sense of warmth and wit into her writing, as it brings the characters to life, giving them a clear sense of fun and vibrancy, as she brings her own sense of personality into the story, allowing it to come alive in the process. Focusing mainly on romance novels, she was interested in them from a young age after being introduced to them by her mother, as she took to them in no time, gaining more and more of an appetite for them over the years.
This then allowed her to become more adept at writing her own take on the genre, managing to hone her writing skills as an author, building upon her materials in the process. She would also take a variety of experiences from her everyday life, putting it back into her work, allowing it to create a realistic and engaging narrative that was compelling for the reader.
Early and Personal Life
Born in the United States in the area of Poplar Bluff, Janna MacGregor grew up in Missouri whereby she would harbor a passion for both reading and writing from a young age. With her mother introducing her to the happy world of fair-tales and romance, she would embark on a lifelong fascination with the form, immersing herself in it for years to come. It would also see her through her education, as she managed to write throughout the years, despite undertaking a variety of different careers along the way.
Still currently working to this very day, she continues to put out work at a regular pace, whilst also working in the day at her law-firm with her husband. Looking after their triplets, they all live together in Kansas City, where she happily writes and works in law, along with looking after their two Pug dogs as well. This is something that’s set to continue on into the foreseeable future, as it doesn’t look like she’s stopping anytime soon, as it looks like there’s a lot more to come yet.
Writing Career
Bringing out her first book in 2017, Janna MacGregor made her debut onto the literary scene with the title ‘The Bad Luck Bride’, which was to be the first in the ongoing series called ‘The Cavensham Heiresses’. Telling the individual stories of each of these heiresses in the Cavensham family, they work as classic romances set firmly within the fairy-tale mold. Garnering a huge amount of popularity over a relatively short amount of time, they’re come a long way extremely quickly, ensuring that MacGregor is definitely a writer to watch.
Setting herself apart by making realistic characters, she continues to make her mark as an author. Working as an attorney alongside her husband who is of the same profession, they are both partners of a jointly owned law-firm. With more books set to come in the future, this looks set to carry on for many years to follow.
The Bad Luck Bride
Brought out through ‘St. Martin’s Paperbacks’ on the 2nd of May in 2017, this was to be the first in the ongoing series titled ‘The Cavensham Heiresses’. It was also to be the first debut novel from Janna MacGregor as a fully fledged and successfully published author, thus establishing her as a serious presence on the literary scene. Setting up the series it works as a standalone romance novel that manages to draw the reader in, with its compelling characterizations and engaging narrative.
Starting out with Alexander Hallworth, it sees him as the Marquess of Pembroke as he’s looking to exact revenge for having his family destroyed by one single man. To do this he will convince the ever beautiful Lady Claire Cavensham to marry him over that of his arch nemesis who is currently her fiancee at the beginning, thus exacting his exacting his revenge. Feeling cursed herself Lady Cavensham has constantly been facing social-ruin following her past three engagements, and now her fourth seems to be heading in the same direction, something which seems to be ever more real as Alexander announces their marriage to everyone suddenly out of the blue. How will she take this news of her supposed marriage to a relative stranger? Could they ever harbor real feelings and passion for one another? What will become of the bad luck bride?
The Bride Who Got Lucky
Released through the ‘St. Martin’s Paperbacks’ publishing house once again, this was set to be the second story in the ongoing series of novels titled ‘The Cavensham Heiresses’. First published on the 31st of October in 2017, this was to be a stand-alone novel that was set in the same world as before, but be its own unique story. Following in much the same vein as well, it manages to provide something for returning fans, whilst also offering a number of developments along the way.
Secluded himself from society to the point of being a hermit almost, Nicholas St. Mauer doesn’t really give himself to anyone or anything, let alone relationships. That’s when Lady Emma Cavensham steps up bringing with her a whole host of passions that may inevitably break his solitude, as she even kisses him. She doesn’t seem to want anything herself though, as she then faces the potential destruction of her reputation, as Nicholas steps in to rescue and save the day. Will they ever be an item? Can they overcome their differences? What will become of the bride who got lucky?
