Jay Shetty was born in north London in the suburb of Wood Green to non-practicing Hindus of Indian origin. He was a very shy child initially but as he became a teen, he would become a rebellious child and drank too much, fought other teens, and experimented with drugs. He did not know what to do with his life and all that troublemaking filled him with guilt and fear. Earlier on when he was ten, his father had been experimenting with all manner of spirituality and questioning the meaning and value of the job he held in London. During that time, he found his father’s quest more of an annoyance than anything but he now acknowledges that it planted the seed of an alternative lifestyle that germinated when he met the monk. As a twenty-two year old, he thought he was poised to change the world but had to go to college first to do it. Once he graduated from Cass Business School in London with a 1st class bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science, he decided it was time he made his mark. Shetty left everything behind and for three years he lived as a monk in India helping establish food distribution programs and sustainable villages. Needing to pay forward the lessons of his time as a monk, he began sharing his experience in the largest corporations and universities in Europe and the United States. It was during this time that he recognized the power of digital and when he was invited to join Accenture as a Social Media Coach and to also help with digital strategy and online branding.

In 2016, he started a Facebook page as he needed to shares some wisdom infused with entertainment. Soon after, he was tapped by Arianna Huffington who saw his talent and made him the host of “HuffPost Lifestyle.” It was on the show that his brand blew up as he would interview some of the biggest celebrities such as Deepak Chopra, Tim Ferris, and Russell Simmons with his show reaching up to a million viewers every day. It was among the “Huffington Post Facebook Live” shows with the most engagement ever. He has been a keynote speaker at many sessions where he has given talks on driving change, harnessing collaboration, and finding purpose in companies such as HSBC, Facebook, and Google. He has won several awards over the years such as Best Blog in 2016 by the ITV Asian Media Awards, the 2019 Asian Awards Outstanding Achievement Online Health and Wellness Streamys Award in 2018, and the Rising Star Award by the Guardian. He still works on his podcast “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” and on “Storyteller” where he works with authors and listeners to help them live purposeful lives. With his company “Storyteller,” he works with companies such as National Geographic, Snapchat, and Facebook and influencers, and entrepreneurs to create inspiring stories that help with their positioning and branding. His book “Think Like a Monk” that was published in 2020 distills the wisdom from his time as a monk into practical steps to help readers live a life of purpose and peace.

Jay Shetty’s debut novel “Think Like A Monk” is an exploration of the fundamental principles of faith. It analyzes the negative impact of thoughts on ego, everyday life and the negative and positive implications, the importance of gratitude, benefits of service, and the many possibilities that meditation provides to people that practice it. It is an empowering and inspiring work as Shetty takes the time to look back into his time in India living as a monk by showing his readers how to clear the obstacles to their power and potential. Combining his rich experiences while living in an Ashram in India and ancient wisdom, the novel shows the reader how to break negative habits and overcome bad thought patterns. This makes it possible for them to access the purpose and calm that is inside every human being. He takes abstract lessons and makes them into practical exercises and advice that one can use to improve relationships and reduce stress. This will make it easy to make the most of our talents to make ourselves and the world a better place.
