Trickery
Trickery is the story about Willa; how she ended up serving, at the Academy of Bless wood. Willer is a dweller or in other terms a slave, who by birth are meant to serve the Sols, who are magic blessed beings who may one day decided to become gods. Many at times Willa always ends up in a mess, either because of her clumsiness or because of various circumstances that may have resulted from her clumsiness. In her community, Willa is the lowest of the dwellers because of her knack for clumsiness. Willa is so unlucky, that even if she decided to walk in a straight line, may end up being hurt by air. It is extremely funny to read how Willer always ends up in a mess. With her clumsiness and bad luck, Willer ends up serving the Abcurse brothers. The Abcurse brothers are five including Coen, Rome, Yael, Siret, and Aros. Each of these characters possesses special and unique powers, thereby making them extremely strong. The book begins to get much more interesting when Willa arrives at the academy and gets her first scary introduced to the five brothers.
Because of the initial introduction, Willa ends up on their radar, which as expected is not a good thing. The five brothers are intrigued and fascinated by the brothers because Willa is unlike any other dweller they have ever met. This, in turn, leads to more and more chaos. The five brother eventually decide to take Willer under their protection. Other dwellers are not happy with the decision made by the five brothers, mainly because Sols and Dwellers are expected to avoid any form of interaction. As time goes by, Willa manages to curve a position for herself in their hearts. It was exceedingly interesting to see Willa stand up for herself. It does not take long before Willa ends up on the God’s radar, which is not a good thing. The gods love to play their games and do not care at all about the consequences of their actions. Apart from Willa, there are also other characters who were also an excellent addition to the series. Emmy is Willa’s best friend, who brought some calmness into her life.
Both Emmy and Will end up accepted into the academy. Eve’s world building is not only simple but realistic as well. A bigger fraction of the novel is in Willa’s head. Despite the fact that there is no romance in the novel, the five brothers are somehow attracted to Willa and several others as well.
Ash
Ash is the first installment in the Hive Trilogy, a book series that have been set in a world where Vampirism is something common, though not fully accepted. In this world that Jaymin Eve has created, there are two non-human breeds; the ash and the vampires. The Ash are beings that are half vampire and half humans. Despite the fact that the ash and vampires are much stronger than human beings, they are forced to hide and live in hives that are scattered throughout the world. Their communities are hierarchal, with vampires at the very top, while the ash at the bottom. Because the hives are becoming overcrowded especially with the ash multiplying at a faster rate, the ash is forced to fight to the death to earn a right to live in the hive. Author Jaymin Eve introduces the readers to Charlie, who hates ash. Recently, Charlie had been attacked by the hives. It is common knowledge that humans should not go to the hives, however, a few days after the attack, she began showing symptoms of turning. This in turn made her an anomaly and a biological impossibility since there was no female Ash.
With that said, Charlie was a fantastic heroine. She is an exceedingly young college girl. Thus it is expected for Charlie to be annoying, immature, full of tantrums and make terrible decisions. Ryder is another brilliantly written character who is a hero that everyone will fall in love with. He was not only protective but also broody. However, despite being protective, he still had a shortcoming; he had no idea what he wanted. Overall, Ash is a quick and light read. Furthermore, this is a story that many fantasy readers already know, though with a new and fresh twist to it.
Persuasion
Persuasion is the second installment in the Curse of Gods book series. As the second book in the Curse of Gods book series, Persuasion picks up from where the first installment had left off. Willa is still tied to the five brothers; however, she has to be with only one of them. There is so much going on in Persuasion and Willa is at the center of attention, which puts her in grave danger. The Sols resent Willa for not knowing her place in society while the Dwellers, on the other hand, begin to rebel, wanting a life that is much similar to that of Willa. Each of the group is planning and plotting, and Willa is caught up at the center of their plans. With each new threat, Willa manages to find her way through; sometimes out of pure luck while at times out of her ingenuity. Apart from Willa. We also meet with the five brothers.
The relationship between Willa and the five brothers is quite different. Willa needs each of the brothers differently, and each of them responds to her rather distinctively. The connection between Willa and the brothers goes beyond the curse, and when they face temptation, the brothers go out of their way to show that they want Willa to be part of their lives.
Will there be a follow up book to close proximity? Love this book it was so well written he just didn’t want to put it down. I listened to the audiobook and I loved how that voices interacted.
