An American author of historical, romance and period-set fictional novels, the writer Jean Harrington has been publishing her unique brand of genre fiction for quite some time now, with more and more discovering her work everyday. Constantly looking for fresh new ideas and perspectives, she’s always had a strong affinity with the written word in a whole variety of different forms. Growing up around literature this affinity has only grown more and more, and it’s a passion that’s easy to see reflected within her writing, as she writes some of the strongest and most eloquent prose within her particular field to date.

Early and Personal Life

Growing up in America, the future author to be Jean Harrington started out by wanting to be a foreign correspondent. With a passion for the written word from a very early age, she would harness this love of both reading and writing and build upon it throughout the years to come. Inspired by the world around her as she grew up, she take her love of English literature and use it to reflect her day-to-day life.

Studying for a degree in English literature, she went on to attend the University of Rhode Island, before going on to gain a master’s degree as well. During this time she also worked at the university as a teaching assistant, something which helped her to continue with the course. This also allowed her to become a more vocal author who was more in tune with her own unique style and tone as a writer.

Working in PR for sometime prior to becoming a full-time writer, she worked on advertising copy and copy-writing. This was then followed by a sixteen year extended period whereby she taught literature in Worcester in Massachusetts at Becker College. The whole time, though, she was constantly looking towards writing as her one true passion, something which she’d eventually go back to as time went on.

Continuing to write to this very day, she still carries on as a full-time author, with her passion for writing also shining through as well. Currently living in Naples in Florida, having moved from her home-town of Pawtucket in Rhode Island, she still maintains her output at a regular and consistent rate. With a lot more to come yet, there’s plenty more titles on the horizon for Jean Harrington as an author, as her writing career grows from strength-to-strength.

Writing Career

Coming out with her début novel ‘The Barefoot Queen’ in 2007, she made her way onto the literary scene with a considerable impact. Setting the standard for what was to be her writing career to follow, she managed to create a new and unique template to work from in the process. It also clearly shows her development as a writer, whilst allowing her readers to discover her, a following which has only grown over the years to follow.

Largely known for her ‘Murders by Design’ series of novels, she looks at the character of interior designer Deva Dunne. Writing a variety of other novels, this is her primary franchise to date, of which there are five in total so far and counting. Mostly focusing on romance, though, she has managed to make a name for herself through her unique and perceptive take on the genre.

Winning various awards and nominations for her efforts over the years, she is not without critical acclaim either. With a number of extremely positive reviews for her work, from the within Florida in the ‘Florida Weekly Newspaper’, to further afield with the ‘FT. Myers Magazine’. Jean Harrington is appreciated both at home and abroad, as her reach has expanded internationally as well as nationally.

Known for her ability at weaving a mystery in with her romance, she takes all the conventions of her respective genres and defies them. Whilst she may give the readers want they want on a certain level, she also manages to provide some exciting twists and turns along the way. This has also enabled her to create her own sense of style and, ultimately, her own formula, which her many readers have come to know and respect.

Currently still writing to this day, she has a lot more to come yet as an author of modern romance novels and literature. After she had finished raising her children, she went on to live in Naples in Florida with her husband John, leaving behind her home in Becker. Continuing to write on into the foreseeable future, there’s a lot more planned on the horizon for Jean Harrington as an author, as she shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Killer Kitchen

Initially brought out through the Carina Press publishing label on the 15th of April in 2013, this was to be the third part of the ongoing ‘Murders by Design’ series. Providing another case in the highly popular murder mystery franchise, it seeks to capture the essence of what came before, whilst also standing out on its own merits. As they all follow with the same character it’s preferable if they’re read in order, although they are accessible individually for the more casual reader as well.

Everything seems to be going well for the interior designer Deva Dunne, as she snags herself a new client with a large mansion that needs a whole new make-over. Deva’s boyfriend, the detective Victor Rossi, has suspicions about the client, Francesco Grandese, though, despite his seemingly great eye for design. These suspicions are confirmed, then, after the chauffeur of Francesco dies from poisoning following eating his dinner when Francesco returns it to the kitchen untouched. Who killed who? Which person was the real intended victim? What is the truth behind the killer kitchen?

The Barefoot Queen

Originally released through the Highland Press publishing house, this book was first brought out on the 3rd of October in 2007. Marking the first entry into Jean Harrington’s backlog of work as an author, it’s notable not only as her debut, but as an early sign of what was to come. Working as a stand-alone romance novel, it’s also quite remarkable the amount of talent that she showed that early on in her career, giving clear signals that she was definitely one to watch.

The heroine of this particular story, Grace O’Malley, has decided to take matters into her own hands and follow in the footsteps of her pirate great grandmother. Known only as the ‘The Deer Stalker’ to Owen O’Donnell, she’s seen as a Robin Hood type figure to all the local starving villagers she feeds. With Lord Rushmount on the case of this nefarious poacher, though, it would seem that suspicions are rising and it’s only a matter of time before she’s caught. Will Owen be able to prevent this from happening? Can they feed the hungry? What will become of the Barefoot Queen?
