Jeff Grubb
Jeff Grubb was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 27, 1957, and is an author of comics, novels, and short stories. He is also a computer and role playing game designer in the fantasy genre. He met Kate Novak during high school, and then married her in the year 1983. His first year of employment involved him working with air pollution control devices.
During high school, he became a wargaming enthusiast. He began playing Avalan Hill wargames which include Blitzkrieg and PanzerBlitz, and the SPI game Frigate. During his freshman year, he went to the campus war-gaming club and was introduced to Dungeons and Dragons.
He walked up to a group of players and asked what they were doing. One of them turned to him, handed him some six-siders, and said roll ‘em and they need a cleric. It was all downhill from there for him.
Within that same year, he went to Gen Con, a table-top gaming convention, for the very first time. He also ran his own campaign set in Toril, his own game universe.
His overseeing of the design of the “AD&D Open” at the 1982 Gen Con, led to Jeff’s employment as a game designer at TSR. He was a design consultant on Gary Gygax’s 1983 work, “Monster Manual II” for the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. Tracy Hickman got Harold Johnson, then Jeff, Carl Smith, and Larry Elmore in on the idea of Dragonlance, with Margaret Weis and Douglas Niles joining later. In the year 1984, Jeff was the principal architect of the Marvel Super Heroes game system.
Jeff was a consultant on Unearthed Arcana’s first edition, and wrote the first edition of the Manual of the Planes.
Jeff got in touch with Ed Greenwood (author of numerous articles in Dragon) about his home campaign setting and Ed began sending Jeff packages filled with background information and maps. And this collaboration resulted in the publication of the Forgotten Realms campaign setting starting with the “Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting” in 1987.
During the late 1980s, Jeff wrote four fill-in issues of “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons comic, licensed by DC Comics. He also wrote 25 issues of DC’s Forgotten Realms series. He launched TSR’s Buck Roger’s line with a board game that was published in 1988.
Jeff continued working on role playing games with TSR for many years, just long enough to be regarded by Scott Haring affectionately as an “old timer”. In the year 1994, he left TSR in order to pursue freelance work. He wrote three supplements for the Jakandor setting, which were published in 1997-1998 as the last publications in the Odyssey series.
“Azure Bonds” was developed into the computer game called “Curse of the Azure Bonds”, which came out in the year 1989.
Among Jeff’s favorite books that he has authored include “Lord Toede”, “Azure Bonds”, and “The Brother’s War”. Favorite short stories include “Lycanthrope Summer” and “The Judgement of abd-al-Mammat”.
“Azure Bonds” is the first novel in the “Forgotten Realms: Finder’s Stone” series that was released in the year 1988. Alias is her name, and she’s in big trouble. She is a warrior for hire, a sell-sword, and an adventuress. She awoke with a series of twisting and magical blue sigils inscribed onto her arms and has no memory of where it was that she got them.
Alias, determined to learn about the real nature of this mysterious tattoo, joins forces with quite the unlikely group of companions. There is the southern mage (Akabar), the strangely silent lizard-man (Dragonbait), and the halfling bard (Ruskettle). With their help, she learns that these symbols hold the key to her own existence.
However those responsible for these sigils are not all that keen on her continued good health. And should the five evil masters locate her first, she might learn much too soon their hideous secret.
“The Wyvern’s Spur” is the second novel in the “Forgotten Realms: Finder’s Stone” series that was released in the year 1990. This is the story about the awesome power of the Wyvern’s Spur that holds a curse for the Wyvernspur family. Its theft spells certain doom unless Giogi, the family’s fool, with the aid of a talented mage and bard named Cat, are able to locate the spur.
However when the enchantment and betrayal threaten Giogi’s ability to make progress, he has to invoke the awesome might of the spur, or end up its next victim!
“Song of the Saurials” is the third novel in the “Forgotten Realms: Finder’s Stone” series that was released in the year 1991. When the Harpers judged the Nameless Bard that was responsible for the death of all his apprentices, they sentenced him to obscurity and exile.
Now the Harpers are rethinking their choice, however with the arrival of Grypht (who is a monster), this new trial dissolves into a series of disappearances and murder. It’s up to the friends of the bard to prove that a single enemy is behind all of this chaos.
“Tymora’s Luck” is a novel in the “Forgotten Realms: Lost Gods” series that was released in the year 1997. Moander the Darkbringer, before the Dawn Cataclysm, corrupted Tyche (the Goddess of Luck). In a desperate effort to preserve Tyche’s goodness, the gods clove her up in twin, and create two daughter goddess: Lady Doom (Beshaba) and Lady Luck (Tymora). In the time since, these two sisters have existed in total enmity.
Now there is a great power that has hatched a rather mad scheme to recreate the goddess Tyche by reuniting both Beshaba and Tymora, regardless of the possible calamitous consequences.
In a choice fraught with godly intrigue, the Rebel Bard and priest of Finder, named Joel, is selected to reveal whoever is behind the abduction of both of these sister goddesses. Aided by Holly Harrowslough and Jas (his old allies), and his new buddy and kender (Emilo Haversack), Joel has to figure a way to keep the merger of Beshaba and Tymora before disaster is able to overtake the luckless realms over.
Dragonlance meets Planescape meets The Forgotten Realms in a heart-stopping adventure that spans over three worlds.
