Jen Turano is bestselling American author of Romance, Historical Fiction and Christian novels. She graduated with a degree in Clothing and Textile from the University of Akron, later pursued a career in management for almost a decade before settling for full-time writing after the birth of her son. Turano is famously known as the author of The Ladies of Distinction Series which debuted in 2012 when the first novel in the series A Change of Fortune was published through Bethany House. The second book in the series A Most Peculiar Circumstance published in 2013 was selected amongst the Top Ten Romance Books by Booklist in 2013.

Torano was brought up in St. Clairsville, a small village town neighboring Wheeling, WVA. The author describes her childhood as being idyllic and due to this reason she spent most of her childhood ice-skating, boating, reading books, and playing with her friends in her tree house. She describes her high school times being fabulous as she would roam the halls with her “gang of eight lovely girls” all of who are still friends today. She was often preoccupied as she was the secretary of her class for a period of four years and then became the Vice-President of Student Council during her junior year and the President during her senior year. After finalizing with her high school studies, Turano advanced to the next stage in life- College where she pursued a degree course in Clothing and Textiles. She was also one of the members of the Alpha Phi sorority. After her college studies, Turano set out to take the fashion realm by storm and discovered that fashion was not as nearly glamorous as she thought.

Turano met her husband while working at a department store in New York and the two got married nine months later. Over two decades later, the couples are still pushing on with life by being supportive to each other and taking care of their son, Dominic. Turano writing career began unexpectedly when her son was in the third grade. Bored by a series they had been reading together, mom and son set out to write a book of their own. The supposed book they were to write rather strange, full of the smelly beast who had the mendacity of eating children, Dominic proclaimed the story to be perfect, and that was it took for Turano to begin her writing career. Her initial books were met with quick rejections, however, when she settled to writing romance, she managed to get an agent who took her writing career to the next level. When not writing, you will find Jen hiking around Colorado, spending time with family and friends.

A Change of Fortune

A Change of Fortune is the debut novel in Ladies of Distinction. The story introduces Lady Eliza Summer disguised as Miss Eliza Sumner. She has had lost her fiancé, her father, and her faith as well and what she has left to cling on is her fortune. She is focused on finding the man who vanished what she had left in the world, her fortune, and all she wants is to reclaim her money and get back to London.
Then there is the handsome Mr. Hamilton Beckett, the catch of the season and a man who has all the eyes of New York City set upon him. He has no plans of marrying anytime sooner especially now that his hands are full ensuring that business stays up and running while raising his two kids alone.
Eliza’s relentless attempts to regain her money accidentally place her straight ahead of Hamilton’s path. The unraveling of a common enemy causes Eliza and Hamilton to form alliances, and soon Eliza has a whole crew of people giving her assistance. Eliza’s determination not to trust anyone gradually weaken after everyone around her offers her a helping hand leaving her to wonder if life has more important things to offer more than her independence and fortune. When Eliza and Hamilton’s best plans come crashing down, it will take a long way for them to figure out that after all God might have had better plans for them all along.

The first book in the series is a fast-paced adventure that is well drawn to achieve a perfect balance of romance and humor. You will be gripped right from the first page and above all when the hero and the hero paths cross. Mr. Hamilton is like a knight in shining armor, he is such an endearing character, a widower with two kids to take care of, and in need of a woman to love. He is such a gentleman, and you will love the relationship that develops between him and Eliza. On the other hand, there is Eliza. She is an independent woman, a woman of steel who is not afraid of confronting her problems. You will love her courageous and adventurous nature, and it is so amazing to see her travel all the way from London to the United States while disguising herself as someone else.

A Most Peculiar Circumstance

In the second book in Ladies of Distinction series by Jen Turano, we meet Miss Arabella Beckett, a woman with only one mission in her life, to help the oppressed women of America. She is a supporter of women suffrage movement, and she attends lectures and rallies across the country. During one of her travels, she manages to help a lady in need, but this act of kindness lands the two women in problems than they could handle. An independent sort of a woman, Arabella is reluctant to accept the fact that she requires help from a rude, prejudiced knight in shining armor.

Mr. Theodore, a private investigator, is on a mission, one that started as an act of kindness to his friend Hamilton Beckett, one that turned out to be a sweet chase across the country. By the time he traces down Hamilton’s sister, Arabella, he is not in a pleasant mood and soon finds himself at his wits ends when the woman proves to have a fierce independent streak and radical ideas.

   I read book 1 of Finding Home Series but have not found book 2 or 3 if there is a book 3. I would like to know what happened to the other 2 children.
   I did enjoy the book.
