Still living in California to this very day, she lives with her husband, continuing to both write and consult in various different capacities, as more books are expected to follow.
Writing Career
Starting with her ‘Emily Stone’ series of novels, Jennifer Chase would make her literary debut with ‘Compulsion’ back in 2008. This would not only introduce her as a writer for the first time, but also one of her much loved leading protagonists, the amateur vigilante detective Emily Stone. These books would continue over the years with almost six books and counting, as each title would feature a different mystery to solve.
Chase would go on to create other series too, including the ‘Chip Palmer Forensic Mystery’ series in 2016, and the ‘Detective Katie Scott’ series in 2019. She would also write a stand-alone title called ‘Silent Partner’ in 2010, as well as a screenwriting workbook, plus she serves as part of the ‘International Association of Forensic Criminologists’. Winning awards for her work too, she’s not without critical acclaim either, as she continues to be a writer with a lot to offer.
Dead Cold
Initially published through the ‘JEC Press’ publishing label, this first came out back in 2017 on the 2nd of July. It would mark the sixth title in the ‘Emily Stone’ series of novels, following on from the previous title with another stand-alone mystery. Working with its own self-contained mystery narrative it can be read by itself, although there are many threads and strands for returning fans.
Every step of this book is handled with expert precision by Jennifer Chase, as she perfectly understands how to pace it effectively. This makes for a gripping and tense read that continually keeps the reader glued to the page for the duration of the novel. Using her covert team, Emily Stone must help uncover the killer before it’s too late and they strike again, as they find themselves up against the clock. Will they be able to find the killer before it’s too late? Can they stop them from striking again? Who is next to turn up dead cold?
The Fragile Ones
First released in 2021 on the 8th of March this would be the fifth mystery novel to be published in the ‘Detective Katie Scott’ series, brought out through the ‘Bookouture’ imprint. A realistic and hard-hitting mystery thriller, this is a story that definitely doesn’t leave anything out for the reader. It’s a dark and gritty book that deals with some tough themes and ideas, all handled with sensitivity by Jennifer Chase. The book has a lot to offer, and is a must not only for returning fans of the series, but overall fans of the genre too.
When two sisters, one eleven and the other twelve, are found dead from a fall at the bottom of a ravine, Detective Katie Scott faces one of her most heartbreaking cases yet. Soon it transpires that they weren’t actually biological sisters, and the youngest, Megan, is DNA matched to a kidnapping victim from years earlier. It appears that the young girl was part of a collection of young victims held by a sadistic killer, and there could be more out there. Dealing with the case, Katie Scott must also manage her own PTSD, as demons from her past threaten to come up, all the while investigating the fragile ones.
