Jennifer Stevenson is one of the most popular authors of America who has written several highly successful novels in her writing career. Most of her writings are based on the science fiction, fantasy, and romance genres. Jennifer often likes to mix her romance and fantasy books with elements of romantic comedy, magical realist, working class, regional, and sex positive style of storytelling. She was born on October 6, 1955, in Waukegan, Illinois, The United States. Being one of the famous authors of the society, author Jennifer received the opportunity of becoming a member of the feminist speculative fiction community of America, which she not only accepted but also actively participates in all the happenings in the community. In her writing career, author Jennifer has written short stories as well as novel series, most of which depict a blend of the urban fantasy and other genres of storytelling. Almost all the books written by her are based in Chicago. The debut novel written by author Jennifer was titled as ‘Trash Sex Magic’. It was published in the year 2004 by the Small Beer Press and was able to earn a place on the short list of the science fiction industry journal called Locus Magazine, very soon. This helped author Jennifer to be nominated for the First Fantasy Novel Award of the year 2005. Following this, the novel was also shortlisted for the Nebula Award in the years 2005 and 2006.

One of the American critics named Jessica Crispin praised Trash Sex Magic for portraying the lives of the lower class citizens of Chicago and the poor characters. She also praised author Jennifer, saying that she does not judge the characters portrayed in the book and that is the main reason behind its enormous success. Jessica even noted how Jennifer refused to use the classist caricature for depicting the American underclass. After the success of her first novel, author Jennifer went on to write a total of three fantasy novel series, all of which are loosely set around the same universe. One of the series is titled as ‘Hinky Chicago’, which features the female protagonists named Jewel Heiss and Hel. The second series titled ‘Slacker Demons’ is a paranormal romance series featuring the retired gods; and the third series is a fantasy series called ‘Coed Demon Sluts’, which is mainly a work of women’s fiction recovering the conventional dark fantasy and sexist genres for exploring the female lives. Apart from these fantasy series, author Jennifer also writes a non-magical series called as the ‘Backstage Boys’. This series is based on the comic adventures of the sexy stagehands, turning the men who own union cards and perform typical working class neighbors, into the lead characters of romantic set ups.

Jennifer also donated some of her personal papers to the archives of Science Fiction and Fantasy. She even keeps herself busy with mentoring the new and upcoming published authors as a part of her pedagogy of feminist writing. Proudly referring herself as a teacher of the art of erotic fiction writing, author Jennifer also hosts a famous sex positive reading series called ‘Smut and Nothing But’. Before becoming a novelist, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the Iowa University in Music and English. Later, Jennifer obtained her double master’s degree in Structural Family Theory and General Counseling from the State University of Southern Connecticut. She says that she was impressed from the writings of Terry Pratchett, P.G. Wodehouse, and Georgette Heyer and decided to write from then on. During her free time, author Jennifer likes to do gardening, cooking, speed skating, biking, spiritual practice, and occasional crow feeding.

One of the successful novel series written by author Jennifer Stevenson is called as ‘Hinky Chicago’, which consists of 5 books in total. The books were published between the years 2008 and 2011. The first novel in the series is titled as ‘The Brass Bed’, which was released by the Ballantine Books in the year 2008. In the plot of this book, the main characters that are introduced include Jewel Heiss and Clay Dawes. At the start of the book, it is shown that Lord Randall is cursed to satisfy a 100 women or find himself trapped forever in a brass bed. Due to his lousy loving nature, he was turned into a sex demon by his magician mistress. But, the brass bed is found by Clay Dawes, who begins to use it for providing sex therapy for women. He seems to be running his scam quite smoothly with the help of the so-called antique brass bed for treatment, until the foxy fraud and pesky investigator named Jewel Heiss comes around sniffing for him. However, it appears that Jewel has a soft corner in her heart for hunky and con men. This proves to be quite lucky for Clay Dawes. As the plot of the book progresses further, it is seen that Jewel Heiss is about to become the 100th woman whom Lord Randall is going to seduce and satisfy. When he presents himself as the personal sex slave of Jewel Heiss, she finds herself in a dilemma between accepting a sex fraudster Clay or a sex demon Randall. But, being a tough cop comes to the aid of Jewel who uses her lusty libido nature to get over her dilemma.

The next installment in the Hinky Chicago series written by author Jennifer Stevenson is titled as ‘The Velvet Chair’. This book too was published by the Ballantine Books in the year 2008. Just like the previous book of the series, this book too turns out to be a hysterical and a hot sex humor. At the beginning of the novel, it is shown that Jewel Heiss is living quite an exciting life with her sex slave Lord Randall. She rescued him from his curse of lying in the brass bed for two centuries. And now, she does not find her life boring with the sex demon. Later, Jewel comes to know that a new-age swindler is trying to sell beauty through a machine called as ‘The Venus Machine’, which appears to be quite irresistible. Jewel decides to bust him with the help of her new partner, the sexy con artist named Clay Dawes. Even Lord Randall decides to join her in the attempt and a ride in the busting of the new con. When Jewel tries to test the Venus Machine for proving that it is nothing more than a scam, something wild happens and starts with full power. Now, Jewel Heiss and her team of con men begin to think whether the machine is a power of suggestion of a powerful machine.
