About Jenny Torres Sanchez
A Young Adult author from America, Jenny Torres Sanchez reaches her readers with her highly unique and personal approach to her work. Clearly passionate about her subject matter, the excitement leaps off the page, as it becomes highly evident throughout her novels. Writing with humor and wit, her stories are very down to earth, resonating with her audience in a manner quite unlike any other.

This can be seen in both her characters and her narratives, as they are direct and to-the-point, speaking in an easy-going and casual style. Not afraid to deal with more difficult subject matter either, she doesn’t shy away from certain topics, confronting them head on. With a lot more potential, she has room to continue growing indefinitely as an author, as more is planned for the future.

Early and Personal Life:
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Jenny Torres Sanchez was raised with a keen interest in literature and the power it held. Interested in history and culture, she would always have something to say, with an wealth of ideas which she’d put back into her work. Continually looking for new ideas and inspiration, she’d always be on the lookout for new ideas too, with a creative and inquiring outlook.

Expressing herself through her work, Sanchez was constantly seeking to identify herself through her writing, as she would find her own style. With a keen interest in painting and photography as well, she would always be looking for new ways to articulate herself creatively. It was her love of writing though, that she’d come back to time and time again, finding herself in her passion for storytelling.

This was something that she’d continue to develop throughout high-school, graduating with a strong interest in pursuing it further. Finding herself returning to school once more, this time she would turn to teaching herself, as she would tutor high-school English. In time this would then lead her to writing Young Adult fiction, as she’d come to know and understand her audience.

Still writing and painting, with a love of music too, she continues to create a style for herself that many appreciate worldwide. Carrying on, she also has a lot more to say too, as she develops her voice as a writer, living with her husband and two children. Currently residing in Orlando, Florida, she will continue to write for some time to come, on into the foreseeable future.

Writing Career:
Bringing out ‘The Downside of Being Charlie’ in 2012, Jenny Torres Sanchez would make a name for herself as an author of Young Adult fiction. This would be her big debut, and it would establish her as an author with something to say, with its story set in high-school. Following Charlie Grisner, it takes a look at his life as he attempts to deal with the trials and tribulations of school and growing up.

Telling stories about real people, Sanchez would opt for stand-alone titles that focused on characters in true to life situations. These would largely feature younger people and adolescents, many of whom were suffering the difficulties faced with growing up. From American high-schools to the problems immigrants face, she always manages to inflect her work with an extremely down-to-earth and grounded approach.

Never losing herself in sentimentality, Sanchez really understands her readers, giving her stories an authentic sincerity. This has proven to be hugely successful, with her characters resonating with readers worldwide, regardless of where they’re from or their background. Getting to the heart of the subject matter, her personality definitely shines through in her work, leaping out from the page.

Becoming a household name for many, she’s been a hit with both the critics and the general public all across the world. Seeking inspiration from her students, she’s a driven author with a strong creative streak running all throughout her body of work. This is going to carry on as her writing career goes from strength-to-strength, with more and more discovering her work every day.

Death, Dickinson, and the Demented Life of Frenchie Garcia
Initially published through the ‘Running Press Kids’ label, this was first released in 2013 on the 1st of January. Not a part of any overall series, it would feature an entirely self-contained narrative that stood apart by itself, being aimed at a Young Adult audience. It would be the second novel to come from Jenny Torres Sanchez as an author, published just one year after her first, ‘The Downside of Being Charlie’ in 2012.
Frenchie Garcia was the last person alone with Andy Cooper the night he committed suicide, something which has effected her greatly. Having had a crush on him, she blames herself for indirectly influencing him, as she is subsumed with feelings of guilt. That’s when she meets Colin, and they attempt to recreate that last night, as she looks to put the guilt of her past behind her. Will she ever be able to? Can she stop blaming herself? What will become of death, Dickinson, and the demented life of Frenchie Garcia?

We Are Not From Here
Published through the Philomel publishing imprint in 2020, this would be another stand-alone title from Sanchez. Released on the 19th of May, it would look at the hardships faced by Mexican immigrants, and the difficulty they must go through. Written with the Young Adult demographic in mind, it’s an accessible and heartfelt novel that’s open to readers from all backgrounds.

Growing up surrounded by dangers at every turn, three teenagers have had to deal with a lot throughout the upbringing in Mexico. Now they start to realize that they may have to leave it all behind if they want to survive, as they begin to make the journey to the American southern border.
Faced with insurmountable odds, Pulga, Chico, and Pequeña have to follow the route of La Bestia in order to make it across the border alive. Will they be able to make it to the other side? How will their friendships fare throughout? What will happen once they say to themselves ‘we are not from here’?
