Winter at The Dog and Duck introduces The Dog and Duck Series. Ellie has left her lucrative career in London and moved back to Leyton. Life has presented her with an opportunity to make decisions that can make an impact in her life. Presented with some opportunities she has to choose the once that favor her the most-which ones will she choose?

On losing her job, she goes back home and takes over two jobs working at a local pub, dog, and duck, and also working on her dog daycare. Leyton is a nice place with little that is unknown to the locals. The pub is a favorite joint for many and more to Ellie. She is optimistic about having a fun-filled old-fashioned Christmas. She is dating her ex but at the same time has met a new guy who is dashing whom she meets on one of her walks. Max Goulding is a developer and rumors get around that he wants to buy the pub. Ellie’s parents are working away in Dubai leaving her alone, and this gives her an excellent opportunity to sit and decide what is best for her life.

All through the book, she makes decisions that she deems true to her and this also have an impact on her life with some working to her advantage while others go south. She struggles between letting go of the past and embracing the present in preparation for tomorrow. The story also brings in the institutions of family, friends and the crucial role that they play. The story also touches on sensitive issues such as the refugee situation at Calais.

Jill has created a story that is well plotted with colorful characters who make the piece an interesting read. It is a refreshingly humble read with more than one thing that you get to learn. Additionally, it is cozy and inspiring which can be read over and again.

Summer at The Dog and Duck

Second in the Dog and Duck Series is The Summer at The Dog and Duck. The book continues with the uplifting and light-hearted drams that happen around the dog and duck pub and the landlady ’s life. Ellie has found her peace and new love after she was heartbroken by her ex, but things are about to get a little hectic as the number of unexpected things happens.

After being heartbroken by her ex-boyfriend, Ellie found love in the developer max, and the two have been having a wonderful time together. The unexpected appearance of max’s sister, Katy who has a whole bunch of attitude breaks the peace that has been present in her life. Max is forced to share his attention between Ellie and her sister and ends up giving more to Katy slowly crushing what had been there between the two. It gets even more complicated with the arrival of Sasha, his ex with a secret that puts him on his toes. Ellie is all alone and feels that she has little to contribute in the life of max as he is overly occupied with the other two women, Katy and Sasha, limiting the attention he used to give Ellie.

The couple has to go through a tough time where their limits are tested. Ellie is ever loving and always spends time listening but seeing her man’s attention divided breaks her and feels out of place. The confessions, light romance, family drama and gossips in the book make summer at the dog and duck an incredible read. Her choice of the story’s environment is one that almost makes you feel present in the happenings. Jill ’s selection of characters and themes is one that is done excellently.

Wedding Bells At The Dog And Duck

The third piece in the Dog and Duck Series is the book, Wedding Bells at The Dog and Duck. Ellie and Max have moved in and currently stay at max’s mansion with each jangling between work and family. When a friend asks for Ellie’s help in planning a wedding, her thoughts go wild on her own which seems like it will never happen.

Ellie gives birth and life moves on with the usual small dramas that surround the couple’s life. Her life has become a bit heavier with the addition of the task of caring for her little one while attending the dog and Duck pub. One of her friends requests for help in planning a wedding that is supposed to take place at the Dog and Duck pub. She is drawn into the thought of her and max having a wedding at the same venue, but this is only a dream.

While the possibility of a wedding seems out of the topic, max and Ellie still have a great time together, and the chemistry is incredible. She still offers her kind heart to people, and this brings more and more to the pub. Ellie worries that she might never get to enjoy her wedding especially after she gets a no from max on requesting for a wedding.

Jill’s story is one that is fast paces but with a smooth flow. Jill Steeples brings the reader the nature of relationships that should exist in families and between community members.
