Jilly Paddock is an English author of fiction. She has been writing in a while and has come out with many inventive and unique novels that could fall easily into the fantasy and science fiction genre.

Paddock spent some time working briefly in a career in medical research and followed that up working in a microbiology lab. She retired early and now has plenty of time to spend on writing her work and having it published.

Paddock enjoys reading poetry, especially that of writers like Yeats. She also enjoys looking at art and listening to folk music. She also has a great appreciation for art. She likes ballads when it comes to music, which are even better if they feature anything about the supernatural.

Jilly states that she has an interest in some types of crafts like cross-stitch and beading. She also likes to collect British and press-molded British studio glass and tarot cards. Paddock is also an active collector of books and music. She resides in the U.K., currently living in London where she continues to write her engaging and inventive novels.

She is the author of No Earthly Shore. This full length novel came out in 2012 and is the story of first contact between species. If you have not yet picked up this engaging science fiction novella by Jilly Paddock. The story shares a lot of themes that make the reader think of already classic fiction writers such as Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov but brings new aspects to science fiction as well.

This is the book that the British Fantasy Society said is a great read once the story gets going. Even though the book is a short piece, readers will no doubt agree with their summary of the story when they say that the prose is smooth and stylish and even “occasionally beautiful”, commending the accurate scientific descriptions and the characters and logic of the story that are both believable and seem to have been brought to life.

In one of the earliest books by Jilly Paddock, the reader is in for a treat. We start out on the world of Yemitzov Five. It’s a planet that is home to the sea quilts. Far from being blankets, these are purely organic creatures that live in the shallow waters of the coast. It’s the perfect environment for these mats of tissue that appear to undulate like gray quilts in the water. Some can reach up to two square meters in size.

The creatures do not have any of the features that you might expect to be common to life. They don’t have eyes, or ears, or even legs or teeth. They don’t have most of the things that animals or life forms on a planet usually do. When a survey team was sent out to take notes on life forms thirty years ago, they reported back that the creatures were dumb and not intelligent at all, although they were animals.

Back in the present day, the sea quilts accomplish the unthinkable; they help to save a drowning girl. Now Earth decides that they must send another expedition out to confirm whether the creatures are sentient or not once and for all. Dr. Aaron-Jones has been recruited to join up and be part of this team.

Zuzana Aaron-Jones is a marine biologist. Once on the team, she makes friends with Mooney, another group member. They are going to be the ones to try and determine and in the end prove whether the creatures are intelligent or not. If they believe that the creatures are intelligent, then the colonists will have to vacate this world. It would be more convenient for a lot of people if they find that the creatures are dumb.

The girl that was saved from drowning by the sea quilts thinks that they are very smart– and even telepathic. But nobody is going to take her words seriously because she is just a child. However, if the organisms are intelligent, then do they have plans to take on the people that are essentially invading their home planet?

It seems unlikely that an intelligent race would allow for any threats to their survival if they had the brains to stop it. These sea organisms may just be a bigger contender for putting up a fight against the colonists than these people thought. What will happen? You must pick up this creative novella from sci-fi author Jilly Paddock to find out!

The Spook and the Spirit in the Stone is another incredible novel from acclaimed author Jilly Paddock. When a girl of just nine years old is kidnapped on a colony world in the backwaters, things are bad. But even worse is the news that the abductor has actually taken victims before– and they’ve wound up dead.

Sophie Crispianou is the step-niece of the President of Earth and daughter to a Terran Ambassador. Getting her back is immediately deemed top priority. It seems that finding her will be the job of A. Afton Lamont and Jerome. She is a detective inspector and Jerome is her partner.

The authorities on Earth don’t believe that the police have the ability to take on a case that is so high-profile. As a result, they decide to call in some assistance from Terrapol. They send an agent that is what they call a ‘spook’– someone who possesses psionic abilities. Her name is Giselle. She is not only beautiful, but can read minds as well.

Who knows what else Giselle can do? This deadly woman seems capable of so much more than she originally reveals. Her goal is to get back the abducted Sophie and find her before it is too late. The team needs to rescue her before tragedy hits and not after. But when something old and evil wakes up deep outside the city, they may have to take on a spirit in a stone in order to get out of the situation alive.

Can they take this new foe on and defeat it? Will they get Sophie back? Pick up this novel from Jilly Paddock to find out!
