Author Jo Goodman is also a counselor that works with families and children in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia. She gets inspired by the strength, perseverance, and courage the kids show on a daily basis. Jo feels privileged that the kids trust her enough to tell their stories to her; the ones that only they can tell.

She grew to really enjoy writing romance novels with a happy ending, because as a child care worker, she found that the only script in life that she could control was the one that she herself wrote out.

At one point in time, she thought that marine biology was going to be her field of study. Seasickness made her change her course. She lives in Colliers, West Virginia.

She is the author of many series, some of which include: the “Thorne Brothers” series, the “Reidsville” series, the “Grantham” series, the “Compass Club” series, and the “Bitter Springs” series.

“Let Me Be The One” is the first novel in the “Compass Club” series and was released in the year 2002. The stars of this series are the points of the compass: West, North, South, and East. None of these friends have yet wed, though wagers have been placed on North (Brendan Hampton, Earl of Northam).

He has been captivated by a unique woman. Libby Penrose is gorgeous, funny, and smart; she is also planning on staying alone. A jewel thief gets them working together, a kiss that happens by accident helps their fate as lovers along. Although, North has more questions about her than answers.

Libby vowed to keep her strong attraction to the sensual and powerful man, despite that, she surrenders to the desire that he has awoken inside of her. She was unable to imagine that events would occur that would get North accused of crime, and her confession, that compromised them both into getting married. Although, it did save them him. Sweet love words have not been spoken and are hard to come by. Libby is keeping a secret, that threatens bonds of her marriage. She will have to make a big choice, either trust in her husband or lose that man forever.

Some readers enjoyed about Libby and Brendan, as they had interesting personalities. They are strong characters that fascinated the readers throughout. Fans of the novel loved this, finding that Libby’s mystery really captured their attention, which made them want to keep on reading. This is well written and pulled readers in. Some could not wait to read more of the book when they were doing other things, as they had to know what happened next.

“Everything I Ever Wanted” is the second novel in the “Compass Club” series and was released in the year 2003. India Parr (who is Drury Lane’s big time actress) has caught the eye of the most impressive gentlemen that London has. Even the Prince Regent. It is due to her poise and talent.

Her heart has yet to be won, but is intrigued by Earl of Southerton, who is a handsome devil. She is dead set on keeping the lethal secret that keeps her private life shadowed.

Readers enjoy how Jo Goodman tells her story, including this book, it has her signature style where she does not give away the big picture, only giving away bits and pieces that come together slowly. Fans of the novel found this to be a twisting and turning read. Everything was connected and well developed, with everything woven together in such a way that does not rely on the reader reading previous books to understand what is going on.

“All I Ever Needed” is the third novel in the “Compass Club” series and was released in the year 2003. Late Earl of Tremont’s daughter, who is named Lady Sophie Colley, is imprisoned by her mercenary cousins that want her to marry for money that her dad did not have. The Marquess of Eastlyn shows up to clarify the rumor about him and Sophie being engaged. The last thing he thought would happen is that he would be captivated by her honey colored eyes. He proposes right then and there, and is quickly turned down by her.

Her rejection is far from personal, however, she finds him hard to resist. All of her willpower is tested when he comes back. The desire they feel is just impossible for them to deny, but she has to so that she can protect East from some past intrigue. This intrigue will put them in very real, very present danger.

They will have to work together, close and personal, because after they unravel the horrible mystery can they have their chance at a love of a lifetime.

Readers can get a sense of how the characters move around and feel things by how real the descriptions are in the book. This is yet another winner from an author that writes high quality romance novels. Fans enjoyed their first Jo Goodman book, and were surprised by the way things happen slowly, requiring patience on the reader’s part. This series is one that keeps readers waiting, and the payoff is well worth it.

“Beyond a Wicked Kiss” is the fourth novel in the “Compass Club” series and was released in the year 2004. Evan Marchman has just gotten his inheritance, and it includes: a fortune, a title, and lands. That being said, he is miserable as the new Duke of Westphal; as he prefers the adventures and intrigue of his Compass Club to the responsibilities that come with an estate. He also has gotten a ward in the form of a gorgeous woman that wants his help in figuring out a mystery that pulls them into a universe of hidden pleasures.

Ria Ashby (who is headmistress at a female academy) wants West to help her find a student that vanished without leaving a trace behind. She is distracted, however, by the passion in Evan’s green eyes and his roguish grin. Their quest to find the girl takes them to a secret society that is made up of the board of governor’s from the school. It is a group where sensuality rules over all and power is a grand seducer.
