About Jo Hamilton

As an author of mystery novels, Jo Hamilton is unparalleled in their creative output, coupling strong characterizations with a dark and moody ambiance. This manages to envelop the reader in different and interesting settings, transporting them, as the stories effectively take them on a journey. Over the years this has proven to be a hugely successful formula for Jo as a writer, writing some highly effective thrillers. Constantly keeping the reader on the edge of their seat, there’s a strong feeling of suspense and tension that is expertly maintained throughout..

Every page is filled with intricate twists and turns, as the books are entertaining and compelling in equal measure. Jo Hamilton has an extremely precise style when it comes to pacing, but they’re evocative in their descriptions and imagery. Knowing their audience, they deliver with each and every novel, all the while saying exactly what it is that they want to say through their work. Getting straight to the heart of it, they perfectly understand what drives the mystery genre, making it all work for them.

The use of character in their story is also well balanced, creating memorable protagonists that really stand out from the page. Creating fully three-dimensional personalities, they always leave a strong impression upon the reader long after they have put the book down. This works well alongside the story itself, allowing them to revolve around each other and essentially push each other forwards. With a lot more to come still, Jo Hamilton will carry on writing for a long time to come, as they continue their writing career on into the foreseeable future.

Early and Personal Life

Born with a keen passion for all things literature, Jo Hamilton would grow up interested in both reading and writing. From an early age they would immerse themselves in this world, continually developing their voice for the author they were to become. This would carry on throughout the years, allowing them to find their niche within the literary industry as a whole.

Continuing this love of writing throughout their education, they managed to build upon their craft as a novelist. Finding their own approach to the genre, they would make their voice heard, all the while drawing in inspiration for their next big idea. Currently still writing to this very day, they have a lot more planned on the horizon, as they go from strength-to-strength.

Writing Career

Bringing out their first novel back in 2019, Jo Hamilton would come a long way in a relatively short amount of time. Debuting with the title ‘The Elusive Mister Green,’ this would also be the first in ‘Sleuth John Malone’ series of mystery novels. This would be followed up that same year with the book ‘The Wolf and The Lion,’ which would be the second book in the same series.

In 2020 they would start their ‘Lakesford’ series of novels as well, and this would be another collection of mystery novels. Beginning with ‘When the Cuckoo Calls’ they would bring out four mystery novels in total that year, all being of the same series. This would lead to them being a writer who was definitely one to watch, as they’d continue to bring out more titles.

The Man Without a Head

First released through ‘Hazelwood Press’ back in 2020 on the 25th of January, this would be the third book in the ‘Sleuth John Malone’ series. Working with a self-contained narrative, it can be read as a stand-alone mystery novel, as the books don’t need to be read in order. There are a few elements brought over though, so it does provide something for returning fans of the character to enjoy as well.

This story has fun with the classic tropes of the detective noir novel, really playing with them all in the process. Pushing the format to its limit, the story is both entertaining and compelling, with strong characters present throughout. It’s a story that keeps the reader guessing right until the very last page, and is a must not only for fans of the author, but fans of the genre as a whole.

In 1981 the head of a homeless man known to many as Herb is discovered in a hatbox within Danny’s Hotel located in Chicago. This leads a waitress who knew Herb to take matters into her own hands after becoming frustrated with the lack of progress on the case, so she hires the services of Private Investigator John Malone to pursue the case. It appears that Malone already has his own connections to the case though, as he attempts to solve it quickly and promptly. Who really killed Herb and why? Where will the case take him? Can he find out what really happened to the man without a head?

The Stone Eater

Initially published in 2020 on the 19th of December, this would be the fourth in ‘The Lakesford Series’ of mystery novels. Set in the area of Lakesford, this series follows a collection of murder mysteries taking place in and around the town. The books themselves can be read as stand-alones, as they don’t have too much connection to each other beside the location itself. Creating a lot of tension throughout, it builds upon the world of the previous novels, in what is a well developed and established setting. It’s a creative series that really has a lot to offer, keeping the reader constantly guessing throughout at every page turn.

Discovering a dead body laid across Widow’s Bridge, the Sorenson Brothers are two experienced hunters who find the victim on the bridge with a history that’s haunted. The victim themself is one Chad Naylor, who is Lakesford’s ex-mayor, and he has a bullet in his chest and a stone left right beside his mouth. Marked with the number one, another stone with number two is found next to a second murder victim, and it’s up to Sergeant Louise Ratahi to find out what’s going on. Can she track down the serial killer on the loose? Where will they strike next? Just who is the stone eater?
