Joan Medlicott is an American author of fictional novels. Medlicott was born in St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands on January 1, 1932. She resides in Barnardsville, North Carolina, along with her husband. In North Carolina, she spends her time writing and spending time with her spouse as well as conducting her Tea on the Porch workshops. She says that on average she can write a novel a year at this time.

She is the author of the Ladies of Covington series. The series started in 2001 with the publication of the first novel, which she says took her two years to write. That was quickly followed up by the sequel The Gardens of Covington and several other fictional novels that totaled up to eight or eight and a half if you consider the short addition of A Blue and Gray Christmas after the release of Promises of Change in 2009.

Medlicott is also the author of the Non-Ladies series. She has penned a standalone fiction novel as well titled Belonging. It was released in 1996 and is a Caribbean love story set in the fifties. She has edited two anthologies.

The Ladies of Covington series is about a group of ladies with very different ladies that come together in the New England town of Covington. They include shy Grace Singleton, bold and extroverted Hannah Parrish, The three ladies connect and find themselves at a wonderful farmhouse where they share and grow their friendship. If you love Little Women, you will love this series!

The Ladies of Covington Send Their Love is the first installment of Joan Medlicott’s the Ladies of Covington series. The main character in this novel is Grace Singleton. She is a woman that is cautious by nature and has yet to find out where she belongs in a world that seems intimidating to her. Even though she is not always the first to jump into things, she has yet to discover her confidence.

Then there is Hannah Parrish who is outspoken but is preoccupied with her fear. Then there is Amelia Declose, a woman who is fragile and has been broken by grief. These three women have been brought together in a Pennsylvania retirement home owned by another woman, Olive.

Although they don’t know each other yet, they gradually get acquainted while at the home. As time goes on they share that none of them feel truly happy living at the home. Resigned, they enjoy their meals there and a bed mattress that is far from firm in their rooms. The women of a certain age have all come to this boarding house somehow through individual circumstance, but when they forge an unexpected friendship they have no idea that their journey together will take them to a North Carolina farmhouse where it seems like anything is possible.

Then something amazing happens. Amelia finds out that she has inherited a house in North Carolina in the town of Covington. It also comes with a bit of money that will cover the costs of fixing it up. Amelia, Hannah, and Grace decided that they will take a chance and go live there together, fix it up, and live there together. It beats living in a retirement home where they aren’t happy.

The promise of the future awaits them, and despite their different dispositions, each of the women is up for an adventure– maybe the adventure of a lifetime! With open minds and hearts, these ladies may just be surprised at what is coming around the corner for them. Their lives may not have turned out as they imagined that they might, but they may just find themselves emerging from it into a whole new phase of their lives that many people rarely get to experience.

They all have their hobbies and find a space in the community. Amelia does photography, Grace teaches reading at a school, and Hannah works with a greenhouse that is made for commercial use. Grace even meets a guy while teaching. Although perhaps unexpected, it is a happy coincidence that the three ladies find that with the company of supportive new friends.

With new found confidence and happiness, they may find that the next phase of their lives is going to be one of the best. Who knows– maybe they will even have another shot at finding true love. Everything is going well until a man shows up to the house claiming that he was the caretaker and the will named him to the inheritance, Amelia must find papers that prove she has a claim to it. What will happen? Pick up the debut novel from Joan Medlicott to find out for yourself!

The Gardens of Covington is the second book in the Ladies of Covington series. The three friends are back in this fun sequel, and they have the entire world at their feet. The ladies are much the same as ever, But problems arise to greet them once again for Hannah.

Usually very calm and cool-headed, Hannah is stressed out. There is a development that has ruined Long Valley and now she must fight to make sure that it doesn’t encroach on their small home on the hills. Amelia is busy with a new love interest, and Grace is happy in a relationship with Bob. Together they even open a new place, the Cottage Tearoom.

With more characters and friends than ever coming into the picture, this second book from Joan Medlicott, you’ll be turning the pages until the end! Could a wedding even be in the works? Hannah is worried about what to do in order to block the development from ruining their hills. But inspiration can strike when you least expect it, and the ladies’ neighbor George just might have an answer.

George Maxwell thinks that he may have a solution to the development problem and keep the hills and valleys of Covington as they are. Can the ladies and George successfully protect the land against the development? Pick up The Gardens of Covington by Joan Medlicott to find out!

Just loved reading the books about the Ladies in the Covington series. I have read 10 books in the series, but can’t find any more listed. Are there more books to finish the series? I would so love to know what happens with Zach and the rest of the Covington characters. Thank you so much for a delightful series!

I love your books, at least I love the one I have read so far, “The Ladies of Covington Send Their Love”. I am getting ready to read The Gardens of Covington.

I appreciate the Publication Order of Ladies of Covington Books in the format to print. This way I can take it to the library and get then in the correct order. I wish they had the e-books but they don’t. Anyway, I love reading and plan on reading all of them. Then I will start with the standalone novels. I love reading about NC since my husband’s family is from there and my son and family live in Cary, NC. Thanks so much!
