JoAnn Ross is specialized in writing about life, family and romance. She has a passion for reading, cooking, caring for rescued dogs and card making. She was born in the United States on July 25 and decided to be a novelist from the age of 7. She developed that passion because when she was younger, her grandfather told her many Irish tales, which motivated her to write her first novel when she was that young. Her earliest years were spent by her listening to her grandfather play music from his lyrical brogue spinning grand stories mostly about castles and kings, battles fought and banishments, performance of magic and miracles.
The teachings of her grandfather which involved telling her to always think big made her have youthful fantasies, and one of those fantasies was about her going to a New York publisher and handing over her great American novel. The publisher will be totally amazed at how brilliantly she could write. Afterwards she will start up her career and attain success both commercially and emotionally. When she has attained her success, she will then go and live among other famous and wealthy novelists in Cape Cod. Those plans eventually did not work out for her the way she had imagined. She has had to write a wide range of articles including newspaper articles and advertising copies. But writing for the newspaper such as the metropolitan newspaper made her feel constrained by the rigid nature of what she has to write. That was when it occurred to her that writing newspaper articles was not her main goal – her main goal was to form interesting stories, stories she could share with her friends, family members and everybody who was interested.
She has continued with her passion of writing about love, family, redemption and loyalty. That constantly reminds her that she is indeed following in her grandfather’s footsteps because when he told her tales, heroes and heroines became successful by going on a quest despite all odds which make it seem impossible. Also in those tales, evil people get destroyed, lovers get united, punishment was served to the wicked and at the end, everybody gets justice. She continued writing and has now written more than 95 novels since 1983, making her gain recognition on the Honor Roll of the Romance Writers of America as one of the best-selling authors. She has been published in about twenty six countries, including France, Russia and China.
Even though she had initially had a passion of becoming a center field player for New York Yankees, then plan on picking up writing as a second occupation after her retirement. But by the time she was waiting for the management of Yankees to give her a call, she came up with her first story as an assignment for second grade. The novella was a tragic romance talking about two star-crossed Mallard ducks. After she was rewarded by her second grade teacher for her work and that encouraged her to continue writing. Out of her work, two have been excerpted in the Cosmopolitan magazine, and some of her books have been published by top publishers such as Rhapsody, Doubleday, Mystery Guide, and Literary Guide book clubs. She has won quite a number of awards, among which are RT Reviews’ Career Achievement Awards, which she won both the romance and the contemporary single title categories. She was also named the RWA Pro-Mentor of the year, and was given the RWA’s national service award.
The remarriage of her mother forced her to move to Southern Oregon which was a remote place. They had no much television there because the mountains blocked the television signals, so most people there had to find alternative ways of catching fun. At the age of 10, she took some kids to the house where cattle are slaughtered; she was able to convince those kids that the blood on the floor actually came from Scout Girls that were murdered. During high school, she found joy in interviewing some of the local celebrities there. She did this every week on the afternoon television talk show. She also worked as an assistant to a magician back then, even though she will not tell how some of the magic happen. She is convinced that Blowin’ in the Wind by Dylan is one of the best songs ever written, and she hates Puff the Magic Dragon and has skydived over the desert of Arizona.
On two occasions, she has gotten married to her high school boyfriend. She currently lives in Pacific Northwest of Tennessee in the United States with her husband, together with her three rescued dogs. When she feels like writing, she derives her inspiration from the beautiful view out of the windows of her home office of the misty and Smokey Mountains.
She has written one novel under the name JoAnn Robbins which was published in 1983. Under the name JoAnn Robb, she has written eight novels published between 1983 to 1986 and two dreamlover series both published in 1984. All her other novels have been written under the name JoAnn Ross published from 1984 till date. She has focused some of her writing to be about the Oregon coast because that was where her high school love gave her a bag of taffy and proposed afterwards.
Her first novel in the Dreamlover series was about a lady named K. L. Michaels who was a painter of the Old Wild West. But many people never knew she was a lady and when Hunter St. James who was a stockbroker comes into her life, have a strong determination to purchase a painting that was not for sale, Kate then offers to sell the painting to him only if he will be a fake K. L Michaels for the aim of having a wealthy Arab support her art work. Hunter then agrees and moves in with Kate, the two engaged in an endless romance and sensual acts which make up for the long battles going on.
The second novel in the series titled Tender Betrayal is about Ballerina Monica Bradshaw who swept across the rehearsal hall in one final pirouette, falling right into the tender arms of an irresistible stranger. From that first romantic embrace, Monica fell in love with this man. But Holt Gallagher who is a foreign diplomat has a past capable of shattering Monica’s dream of a perfect love with this stranger. This deceit caused Holt not to trust any other dancer.
