Her book Paper, Scissors, Death was published in 2008. It is Joanna Campbell Slan’s first novel and it ended up being a finalist for an Agatha Award. The book is the first in the Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-n-craft Mystery series. The series features a spirited single mom who lives her life in St. Louis and every day is an adventure. There are also short stories on Kindle featuring Kiki in a special series.

She is also the author of several other books and series. She is the writer of The Jane Eyre Chronicles, which puts Jane Eyre as an amateur detective solving mysteries. She has also written the fourth book of the Southern Beauty Shop series as Lila Dare.

Paper, Scissors, Death is the first book in the Kiki Lowenstein series by celebrated author Joanna Campbell Slan. Kiki Lowenstein is an average housewife that loves scrapbooking and hanging out with her daughter Anya in St. Louis.

In this debut mystery novel, Kiki can tell you that every scrapbook has a story. Each picture of friends and family can tell you something. But what can it tell you when it comes to a murder? You always think that murder won’t happen to you or your family, but when Kiki’s husband George is murdered she is blown away. Their family is now ruined when George is discovered tragically deceased (and naked) in a hotel room.

Kik has to find out what happens. But does she really want to know? The housewife may not be ready for what she discovers. Kiki starts to find some leads and thinks that she is getting closer to tracking down the killer. But along the way, she begins to discover things about George’s life– a secret life that no one ever knew about, least of all his family.

Things get worse as a former lover of George taunts her and Kiki makes an unusually sharp threat. But when the woman is found dead– murdered– Kiki wishes she hadn’t said anything. Now she is the prime suspect in a murder case when murders are going around town like the flu, and Kiki knows she didn’t do it. However, if they think that she is a candidate for this woman’s murder, will they also start to think that she committed the murder? They always suspect the spouse!

Kiki is worried and horrified by the sudden turn of events. One day she had a normal life and now it has been turned upside-down. If something doesn’t change soon, she might be doing scrapbooks in a jail cell. But her friends are on her side and a Detective is willing to hear her out without judgment. Now it’s up to Kiki to figure out how to capture the killer and clear her name for good. Can she do it? Check out this novel to find out!

Cut, Crop & Die is the second novel by Joanna Campbell Slan in the Kiki Lowenstein series. One scone is all that it takes to set things off this time. When the icing on a scone is tainted and triggers an extremely rare allergy in a hobbyist, things don’t look positive.

The hobbyist dies at a scrapbooking session that is being sponsored by the store Kiki works at, Time in a Bottle. Then the gossip kicks into high gear when it’s rumored that someone swiped the emergency medication from the victim and the case is officially a murder. The majority of the community starts suspecting everyone who works at the shop, which includes Kiki.

The shop used to be the place where Kiki could take refuge from the ups and downs of her life. But when it stops being a safe place and instead becomes a source of anxiety, Kiki doesn’t know what to do. Yvonne Gaynor had a lot of enemies, even if they all didn’t volunteer themselves.

She was mean enough and had been nasty to enough people that she could fill a scrapbook with all of the individuals that she had alienated. Plenty of people had the motive to steal her medication. The question is, who did it? Kiki wants to solve the mystery and clear her name and everyone at the shop from the murder.

To top things off, the attractive detective Chad Detweiller is on the case and is looking particularly handsome these days. With plenty going on like a teen daughter, a crush, financial pressures, social ostracism, and a murder to solve, Kiki needs to keep focused if she’s going to figure out how to keep it all together. Can she do it? Read this book by Joanna Campbell Slan to find out!
