The Sea Change is a 2013 novel by Joanna Rossiter. If you have been looking for something creative and original to enjoy, this book might be it. It is a moving and haunting story that is about a mother and a daughter who find themselves caught in the middle of a tsunami and a war.
Yesterday was the day of Alice’s wedding. She is located thousands of miles away from the home that she wanted to leave desperately, on India’s southernmost tip, when she wakes up in the morning and glimpses a wave on the horizon. The wave is taller than the height of the guest house that she has on Kanyakumari beach. Meanwhile, she doesn’t see her husband anywhere.
Alice’s mother Violet is on the other side of the world and is estranged from her daughter. She has to leave Imber, the idyllic Wiltshire village where she grew up. She had to do it following its requisition by the army during the process of World War II. Violet is continually haunted by the shadow of the man that she loved and the wild nature of a home that is in ruin.
As she makes her way through the wave’s debris, Alice remembers the events of the hippie trail that ended up leading to her quick marriage as she tries to put together the fate of a husband that she doesn’t know all that well. Violet has to come back to Imber so that she can let go of a life that is not hers any longer and start the search for her daughter.
Read The Sea Change to find out what happens with these characters and if they can find what they are looking for or else deal with the twists that fate throws their way. If you’ve been looking for some dramatic fiction that also has some uplifting moments, this unique book from Joanna Rossiter might be right up your alley. Check it out to see what happens in the end!
