John Ajvide Lindqvist is one of the reputed authors from Sweden, who is popular for writing horror and mystery books as well as short stories. He was born on December 2, 1968, in Blackeberg, Sweden. While growing up, Lindqvist spent most of his time in the suburbs of Stockholm in Blackeberg. When he was a teenager, he used to give street performances of magic to the tourists that used to walk on Vasterlanggatan. Prior to establishing himself as a published author, Landqvist as working as a stand-up comedian and magician for a period of 12 years. The first book that author Lindqvist wrote was a romantic and social realistic horror story featuring vampires. It was written in Swedish and was later translated into English and republished with the title ‘Let the Right One In’ in 2004. This novel went on to achieve a great success all over Sweden as well as in the rest of places, where it was released. Following this immense success, author Lindqvist came up with his second book in 2005, which was titled as ‘Handling the Undead’. This book dealt with the zombies that rose from the dead people. The Swedish authorities in the Stockholm area refer to this as re-living. In the year 2006, author Lindqvist published his 3rd book, which was a short story collection. His next story was released as a serial in one of the Swedish newspapers, Dagens Nyheter, in 2007. The book, Tindalos, is also available freely as an audiobook on the website of the newspaper. Most of the written work of author Lindqvist are released by the Ordfront publication. The works have also been translated into multiple foreign languages, including German, Chinese, English, Danish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Spanish, French, Dutch, Hindi, Bulgarian, and Czech. In addition to the fiction novels, author Lindqvist also has interests in writing screenplays. He has been involved in writing the script of a drama series for the Sveriges Television, which is known as Kommissionen. Also, Lindqvist has written the screenplay of the film adaptation of his debut book. The film rights based on his 2nd book were acquired by the Tre Vanner production company. They were planning to make a movie, but sighting the heavier interests for the American version of the movie the company decided to sell the film rights to one of the American companies. However, author Lindqvist did not agree to this and the film remained unmade. There were tensions between Lindqvist and the production because of this and eventually, Lindqvist sold the rights to some other company in 2012.

Author Lindqvist is believed to be a devoted fan of Morrisssey. In fact, he selected the name of the English title of his debut novel from a popular song of Morrissey. Morrissey’s music also influenced the major plot of Lindqvist’s novel Harbor. In this book, author Lindqvist has described a couple of the main characters as the devoted fans of Morrissey, who always live their lives by quoting the songs of Morrissey. The father of author Landqvist had died due to drowning and due to this reason he has mentioned the sea as a sinister and dark force in a few of his works. In the novel titled Harbor, the sea is shown playing an important role like a menacing presence. Many critics believe that author Lindqvist considered sea as the villain in the story. Also, Lindqvist has described a pivotal scene in the first book in which a character nearly drowns in the swimming pool of a gym. The books written by the author are published in as many as 29 countries of the world.

An initial book written by John Ajvide Lindqvist is entitled as Let Right One In. It was released by the Quercus publication in the year 2007. Author Lindqvist has set the story of this book in Stockholm, Sweden, at the time of the year 1981. The primary characters introduced include Oskar Eriksson, Jonny Forsberg, Eli, and Hakan Bengtsson. At the start of the book, it is shown that there is autumn in Sweden in 1981. The season brings the inconceivable in the suburb on Blackberg. A dead body of a teenage boy is discovered. What seemed more shocking is that there was not a single drop of blood inside the body. It obviously implied that the murder was committed as a part of ritual killing. For a 12 year old boy named Oskar Eriksson, it is a revenge that has been taken on his part for the constant bullying that he goes through in his school every day. The only complaint that he has is that the justice had come very late as he was hoping for something like this to take place for a very long time. However, this murder does not appear to be the most crucial thing going on in his mind. Oskar learns about a new girl who comes to live in the next door. This girl had never seen the Rubik’s Cube in her life before, but she is able to solve it very easily. Oskar thinks that something seems wrong about this girl. And whenever he sees her, he finds something odd in her. What makes him wonder even more about her is that she comes out only during nights.

Another well known book that Landqvist wrote in his career is called Harbor. It was released in the year 2008 as a drama/horror novel. The book was released again in 2011 by the Thomas Dunne publication. Author Landqvist has done the setting on an island called Domaro in Stockholm archipelago, Sweden, and has featured the main characters as Maja, Anders, Simon, and Anna-Greta. At the beginning of the book, author Lindqvist has mentioned the island to be cursed. The story revolves around the life of Anders, whose daughter disappears one day during the winter. A few years pass after the incident. As Anders is not able to find his young daughter, he takes the support of alcohol to get over his grief and gets addicted. Even his wife leaves him and then gives him a divorce. After some years, Anders returns back to the Domaro island. There, he meets his stepfather named Simon. He is shown as an illusionist, who starts believing that there something very strange about the sea and the island itself. Author Lindqvist has stated about the book that he wanted to use a concept from the beginning in this story that involved a couple of ghosts who travel around the island in a moped and speak through the quotes of The Smiths. This novel was highly appreciated by the critics as well as by the readers.
