The Thaddeus Murfee Legal Thriller series written by John Ellsworth is comprised of a total of 10 books, which were released between the years 2014 and 2016. All the novels of the series feature the chief protagonist as Thaddeus Murfee, who is introduced as a rookie attorney by author Ellsworth. The debut novel of this thrilling series is entitled as The Defendants. It was released by the Subjudica House in the year 2014. The important characters of the story include Thaddeus Murfee, Ermaline Ransom, and a few others. At the start of the novel, Thaddeus Murfee is shown being hired to take the defense case of Ermaline Ransom. She faces the charge of murdering the man who loved her very much. Ermaline seems to be persecuted not only by the District Attorney, but also by the Illinois Governor and the Mob of Chicago. The Governor is found to take payoffs from the state contractors for the construction jobs. It appears that he will be the least benefitted person if Ermaline gets executed for the killing that she did not do. When the Mob learns that Thaddeus has agreed to defend Ermaline, they warn him with serious threats. As the FBI is involved, Thaddeus tries to take their help to get rid of the threats. However, he fears that they will start looking into the life of Ermaline too. In order to win this difficult case, Thaddeus is required to prove Ermaline as innocent and at the same outwit the Governor and the Mob. He also needs to keep himself alive. As the murder trial begins, a showdown takes place between Thaddeus and a hitman of the Mob. The story comes to a surprising end that leaves every reader breathless.
The next thrilling book written in the series is called as ‘Beyond A Reasonable Death’. It was also published in 2014. At the beginning of the book, it is depicted that Thaddeus Murfee helps the police to put a wanted godfather behind the bars. Because of this, the Mob starts pursuing him. To get rid of them, he files a law suit against them on behalf of several survivors of their recent murders. But, the Mob continues to pursue him, which forces him to travel to West. Seeking refuge, he pursues the case against another godfather and tries to make him lose all his toys. By doing so, Thaddeus Murfee hopes to end his struggle against his men. Thaddeus is continuously chased wherever he goes. At one point, he thinks of taking help from the FBI. But, fearing about the revealing of his whereabouts, he stops. Eventually, Thaddeus takes the case to trial against the largely funded lawyers of the mobsters, which ends with shocking results. In the meantime, Thaddeus also struggles to deal with his love life. Once again, the plot ends in a thrilling courtroom encounter that makes the readers intrigued until the very end.
