John Everson is an American author of science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, and thrillers books. He is a retired newspaper reporter. Everson is the author of the Bram Stroker Award-winning book Covenant and award finalist book NightWhere, dubbed the “50 Shades Meets Hellraisers.” He is the creator of Danika and Mila Dubov, featured in the Netflix series V-Wars, a series based on the books authored by Jonathan Maberry.

According to Booklist, Everson’s novel set in New Orleans, Voodoo Heart, offers a seamless fusion of supernatural horror and gritty detective storytelling. The book is certainly to captivate both fans of horror and mystery. Meanwhile, Living Dead Magazine hailed him as “the ultimate authority on all things dark and alluring.”

Covenant is the first novel in Covenant Trilogy first published in 2004. We are introduced to Joe, a young newspaper reporter. Joe leaves behind the pain of heartbreak and loss in the tough streets of Chicago. He decides to start fresh in the calm coastal village of Terrel. But for a reporter like Joe, Terrel seems dull and uneventful. There aren’t any exciting stories to chase after.

However, Joe soon learns about a disturbing pattern. Every year, teenagers go to the cliffside and end their lives. It’s a tragic and mysterious occurrence. Additionally, there are other disappearances at different times, adding to the town’s eerie atmosphere.
Curious, Joe is determined to uncover the truth, so he delves into Terrel’s history. His investigations lead him to uncover dark secrets and horrors lurking beneath the surface. Rumors tell of an evil presence beneath the town’s lighthouse atop the cliffs.
As Joe continues his quest for answers, he becomes a target of this evil force. He senses it, watching him, waiting for their inevitable encounter.

When another teenager, Angelica, vanishes right before his eyes, Joe’s suspicions are confirmed. He’s convinced that there’s more to Terrel than meets the eye. Dark forces are at play, and Joe is determined to uncover the truth, even if it puts him in grave danger.
He’s excited when Joe learns that people have been ending their lives at the same spot for a century, thanks to the lighthouse’s long watch. It’s the kind of story that gets his adrenaline pumping.

But as Joe digs deeper into the town’s mysteries, he faces resistance from the locals. They’re tight-lipped, unwilling to reveal what they know. Even the sheriff and Joe’s editor advise him to drop the story.

Despite the pushback, Joe persists, determined to uncover the truth. But the more he investigates, the more isolated he becomes. The residents shun him, fearing what he might reveal. Even the parents of the victims refuse to speak to him, treating him like he’s contagious.
Joe wonders, what’s happening in Terrel? Is there truly a sinister force lurking within the cliffs, as suggested by Angelica, the fortune teller? Or could there be a darker conspiracy at play involving five women and their first-born children?

NightWhere is the first novel in a series by the same name, published in 2012. In relationships, things can change. Even marriages that were once strong can start to fall apart. Sometimes, one person doesn’t realize how the other feels or refuses to accept it.
NightWhere tells the story of Mark and Rae, who seem like an ordinary couple but have a secret life in the swinger and BDSM club scene. They’re well-known in Chicago’s underground sex club world, especially Rae, who craves both sex and pain.

Mark loves Rae and wants to make her happy, even though he’s not as into the lifestyle as she is. He enjoys some variety occasionally, but it’s not his main thing.

Rae desires something more intense, something beyond what they’ve experienced. She signs up when she hears about NightWhere, a mysterious club where you can live out your wildest fantasies. But nobody knows where it is or how to get in, and some even doubt its existence.
Then, out of the blue, they receive an anonymous invitation. This invitation changes everything for Mark and Rae, setting them on a path they never expected. Once inside, there are no boundaries, and many cannot turn back.

Rae catches the eye of Kharon, who seems almost inhuman. Under his influence, she embarks on a dangerous journey of pleasure mixed with pain and bloodletting, risking her very soul.

Meanwhile, Mark is desperate to save his wife from the dark clutches of NightWhere. With the help of Selena, a mysterious woman, he races against time to rescue Rae before it’s too late.

Rae’s desire to explore leads her into dangerous territory, where the lines between pleasure and danger blur. Initially unaware of the true nature of NightWhere, Mark realizes the grave mistake they’ve made by entering its twisted world. With Selena’s warning ringing in his ears, he must act fast to save his wife from the abyss.

Some desires lead to darkness, and NightWhere is where those desires can consume you entirely. As Mark and Rae navigate the treacherous depths of this underground club, they discover that some doors should never be opened and some pleasures come with a price too steep to pay.
Then Mark realizes Rae hasn’t returned home, panic sets in. He knows he must find NightWhere again to rescue her from the club’s mysterious Watchers. He’s desperate to prevent her from descending further into the dangerous realms of The Red and The Black, where her very soul is at risk.
This novel delves into the raw emotions of the main characters, Rae and Mark. It explores the fine line between pain and pleasure. It’s a gripping tale of love and sacrifice as Mark battles to save his wife and their marriage from the clutches of darkness.

The prologue sets a haunting tone, offering glimpses of the strange and eerie events to come, leaving a lasting impression on the reader. One notable aspect of NightWhere is the characters’ willingness to endure suffering in pursuit of their desires. Despite their torment, they keep returning, driven by their relentless pursuit of fulfillment.

John Everson’s novel takes readers on an emotionally charged journey into the underground world of BDSM and swing-style sex clubs. It’s a story that doesn’t hold back, vividly portraying the gore and eroticism that define NightWhere’s dark allure.
