John G. Hartness is best known as a defender of ladies’ virtues, a righter of wrong, and a teller of tales.

He is also known as the author of “The Black Chronicles,” the Bell Bridge Book published award-winning series. It is a humorous urban fantasy series that asks the humorous question of why we do not have that many fat vampires.
In addition to the EPIC award series of novels, he has also won several other awards with his other novels including the NC Speculative Fiction Foundation’s Manly Wade Wellman Award.

The author made his debut with the publishing of the collection of short stories “Returning the Favor,” which came out in 2009. He has since published several collections and edited a couple of anthologies.

He published “Christmas Lights” his first novel in 2011 and his first novel “Hard Day’s Night” in 2010. John G. Hartness now has more than 100 titles to his name among them single-standing novels, short stories, novellas, and several series of novels.

John who graduated from Winthrop University currently makes his home in Charlotte, where he lives with Suzy his wife alongside a very demanding car.

In his other life, John G. Hartness took on different jobs as he was an arts administrator, actor, electronics technician, lighting designer, salesman, and theatre consultant.

During the 2000s, he was the President of the North Carolina Theatre Conference and the Metrolina Theatre Association. He was also the Managing Director of the Off-Tyron Theatre Company.

In 2016, he began working with several well-known people in the publishing industry and together they founded the publishing conglomerate Falstaff Books. They would dedicate themselves to pushing the boundaries in entertainment and literature.
In addition to his endeavors with publishing, he also hosts the “Literate Liquors” podcast, which features the best in science fiction and fantasy book reviews and the best liquor pairings.

He makes use of his copious free time rescuing kittens from the trees, taking long walks on the beach, and recording new podcast episodes for “Authors & Dragons,” where he usually teams up with five fantasy authors.

As for his inspiration, John G. Hartness has said that he always loved to read fantasy. He loved reading the likes of Kim Harrison and his Hollows series and this marked his introduction to urban fantasy.

When he was younger, he also read a lot of Anne Rice fiction, the “Dresen Files” by Jim Butcher and Laurell K. Hamilton’s “Anita Blake.” He has also been writing nonfiction in the form of providing reporting coverage for poker websites.
During his time writing nonfiction content, he wrote for “World Series of Poker,” which was read in more than two dozen countries by more than a quarter of a million people.

It was when he was fired from that job that he decided to get into fiction writing. Making use of his experience garnered over more than twenty-five years as an actor, director, and designer he wrote some very interesting fiction works.
His theatrical background and watching shows such as Aaron Sorkin’s “West Wing” made him create some amazing dialogue and characters for his novels.

John G. Hartness’s novel “Hard Day’s Knight” introduces a vampire named James Black, who is a 36-year-old who had been turned as a 22-year-old.
He works at Black Knight Investigations alongside his best friend Gregory W. Knightswood IV who is very proficient with computers.

They had been turned into vampires but they are not your typical handsome vampires as they remained in the condition they were in before they turned.

As such, Grey is a pudgy young man while James maintained his skinny frame. They are good vampires, even though James asserts that he still drinks from humans directly.

Mike is a priest who used to be a member of their gang before Greg and James became vampires. Occasionally, they ask Phil a fallen angel who is the owner and proprietor of a strip club to help them.
In this work, they are on a quest to find some missing children who they learn are part of a plan to bring a high-powered demon to Earth. Complicating matters is Sabrina Law, a female detective who is determined to solve the case.
It is a novel full of hilarious moments that will have you chuckling along even during the serious moments of the investigation.

“Back in Black” by John G. Hartness sees Greg and James being called in by Sabrina our favorite detective for another interesting case.

The police have been finding homosexual men left for dead after being brutally beaten all over the city. One of these men is the cousin to Sabrina and she thinks there is an element of the supernatural in the cases.
Investigating the cases, they realize that they are not dealing with attacks from ordinary men but rather fairies. To solve these cases they may have to go deep into the realms of the fairies to investigate.
In the faerie world, they realize that they hardly know anything about the strange land including the fae, dragons, and other beings in it.

Still, they also learn how to become a true vampire even as they have to learn how to use swords so that they can fight illegal gambling rings, trolls, and a demon named Lilith.
It is an irreverent and hilarious novel as the characters never take each other seriously but have some very good and believable friendships.

John G. Hartness’ novel “Knight Moves” is the third novel of the “Black Knight Chronicles” series of novels.

Greg Knightwood and Jimmy Black abet and aid Sabrina Law the detective and Father Mile in their current investigation.

It opens with a bowling date between Sabrina and Jimmy that had been going so well until they get some bad news from Greg. Apparently, a dead body had been found on the college campus in the locale, with most of its blood drained.
The investigation begins and moves quickly among a combination of unexpected and expected plot points.

Combining action, emotional sensitivity, and humor it makes for an interesting work that will keep you engrossed from the first page to the last.
