John Jackson Miller was born and raised in Memphis Tennessee January 12, 1968, and writes books, games, comics, and non-fiction works about each one of those things.

He has a master’s in comparative politics from Louisiana State University, and he has sought to play on political and international elements in both his games and fiction. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Tennessee, where he was the editor for The Daily Beacon.

Before all this, he was active in the minicomics and fanzine community, which is the twentieth century versions of the webcomics and webzines.

His non-fiction, his research specialties included studying comic-book circulation history, which spawned the four volumes of “Standard Catalog of Comic Books”. He has edited various magazines like Scrye: The Guide to Collectible Card Games, Comics & Games Retailer, and Comics Buyer’s Guide. John also served as Collectibles Editorial Director and later on, Interactive Media Editorial Director for F+W Publications. Since then, he has continued his research interests on his other site, Comichron.

John read his first comic when he was six years old, so he is unsure what it was exactly. He believes it was a Gold Key comic, possibly an Uncle Scrooge. The first “grown-up” comic he read was Marvel’s Star Wars #1 in 1977 when he was nine.

The movie he has seen the most in theaters is “Batman” in the year 1989, because he was so bored during that summer. John saw the original “Star Wars” four times in theaters. Once when it was first released, two additional times during different rereleases, and once for the Special Edition. When it first hit HBO in the year 1983, he watched it 25 times during the first month.

“Star Wars: Kenobi” won the Scribe Award for Best Original Tie-In Novel, Speculative Fiction in the year 2014.

“Knight Errant” is the first novel in the “Star Wars: Legends” series and was released in the year 2011. Currently, the Republic is in crisis. The Sith are roaming around unchecked, vying with each other to dominate the galaxy. One single Jedi, Kerra Holt, is determined he will take down the Dark Lords.

Her foes are many and strange: Lord Daiman, who imagines himself the creator of the entire universe. Lord Odion, the person that intends on being its destroyer. Then there are the curious siblings Dromika and Quillan, as well as the enigmatic Arkadia. So many of these warring Sith weave together a patchwork of brutality, with just Kerra Holt left to defend the innocents that have been caught underfoot.

Sensing there is a sinister pattern in the chaos, Kerra goes off on a journey that is going to take her into fierce battles against some even tougher enemies. With one against so many, her one chance of success lies with forging new alliances among those that serve her foes. This includes one mysterious Sith spy and the clever mercenary general. Are they going to be her salvation or her adversaries.

“Human Error” is the first novel in the “Orion Offensive” series and was released in the year 2013. Bridget Yang’s armored warriors were equal to any and all interstellar danger. Except bureaucracy, of course. Bridget and her crew discover, at the worst time possible, that their multi-world federation sent them the incorrect species’ armor.

What do you do when there is an alien menace devouring the world underneath you, and you don’t have anything to wear?

“Overdraft” is the second novel in the “Orion Offensive” series and was released in the year 2013. During the twenty-second century, mankind has journeyed out to the stars, and found that they are open for business. When it comes to keeping that business safe, Chief Bridget Yang and her squad of heavily armed space marines, Surge Team Sigma are up to that task.

Unfortunately, Jamie Sturm is a problem they are unable to vaporize. Jamie’s financial schemes end up bankrupting their whole expedition, Bridget and her crew refuse to allow this rogue stock trader to walk away. In order to save their jobs, the soldiers drag him out from behind the desk, and onto one seemingly hopeless mission out to the frontier, looking to open up the most dangerous parts of the Orion Arm to trade. In turning over each and every alien rock trying to find some profit, a hapless trader and his reluctant protectors reveal something that endangers humanity.

John delivers one fun space adventure story that follows a rather tight point-to-point storytelling. These characters are three-dimensional with their realistic and human flaws and they are just a ton of fun to follow around. John also keeps the reader guessing and it makes it so you can never entirely totally predict what would happen next in the story. He does a great job of bringing this fictional world to life. The book is fun to read, well-written, and funny.

“Hell’s Heart” is the first novel in the “Star Trek: Prey” series and was released in the year 2016. When Kruge, the Klingon commander, died during combat against James T. Kirk on the planet Genesis back in the year 2285, he left behind one powerful house in disarray.

He also has a series of ticking time bombs, the Phantom Wing (a secret squadron of advanced Birds-of-Prey), a group of some loyal officers intent on securing his heritage, and young Korgh (his thwarted would-be heir). A young man that is willing to wait a Klingon lifetime in order to enact his vengeance.

Now a century later, while on a diplomatic mission for the United Federation of Planets, Jean-Luc Picard and the rest of the USS Enterprise have been snared in the old Korgh’s trap, and they are thrust right in the middle of an old conflict. However, while Commander Worf quickly finds out Korgh could be after much larger game than anybody imagines, confronting the Federation-Klingon alliance with one crisis unlike anything it has ever seen before.

This is an enthralling adventure that does a great job of capturing the world of Star Trek and its characters. There are elements of surprise and some fantastic action.
