About John Legg
The American author John Legg is world renowned due to his incisive style of writing that instantly grabs the reader. Taking his audience on a journey through the great outdoors, he’s managed to carve himself a highly idiosyncratic niche within the industry. This has proven to be hugely successful for him over the years, with many authors, critics, and general readers alike singing his praises. Publishing a lot of Western novels and literature too, he’s also written under a variety of different pseudonyms as well.
Featuring stories of rugged mountain men, there’s plenty of grit and realism in his writing, making it wholly believable throughout. Not shying away from the tougher aspects of the life as well, he often uses coarser language in his dialogue to help portray this. With this he’s created some highly compelling and engaging novels that really capture the attention of his audience. There’s lot of action keeping the readers glued to the edge of their seat, constantly hooked for each and every turn of the page.
As an author, Legg is a gifted writer with a lot to use, using the format of the Western genre to say something quite different and unique. Over the years this has helped him make a name for himself, as he’s become a household name for many all over the world. Previously working as a newspaper copy editor, his style is succinct getting straight to the point, which makes his work all the more compelling. With lots more to come in the future, he continues to write regularly, as his writing career carries on progressing further and further.
Early and Personal Life
Growing up with a keen passion for both reading and writing, John Legg would always show a strong interest in literature. This interest would continue to develop throughout much of his life, on into his adulthood, as he would go on to become a full-time author. Refining and honing his own personal style, he became highly adept and creating a voice that was entirely singular to him.
Gaining an MSJ at Northwestern University from the Medill School of Journalism, he would develop his writing through his education too. Working with a newspaper as a copy editor, this would continue, and he also managed an organization preserving American history, specifically dedicated to preserving accuracy with how the fur trade times are portrayed. All of this has made his work extremely well researched, as he continues to write from his home in Phoenix, and his wife Karen and their two children.
Writing Career
In 1980 John Legg would write and publish his first novel, which was a stand-alone and self-contained Western novel titled ‘Cheyenne Lance.’ He’d released another stand-alone Western novel one year later, which was titled ‘Medicine Wagon,’ and he’s gone on to publish over fifty novels and counting since. Later in 1991 he would publish his first series which was ‘Mountain Times,’ beginning with the book ‘Winter Rage,’ and there would be three in the series.
The first two books that Legg wrote were while he was acquiring a BA in communications, along with an MS in journalism. Writing under his own name, he’s created a whole host of different Western novels, many of them focusing on well researched history of the Old West. Continuing to maintain a strong profile both online as well as off, he has a lot more to come yet, with plenty more titles planned upon the horizon.
Blood Vengeance
Originally released through the ‘Wolfpack Publishing’ label, this would come out in 2015 on the 14th of July. Setting up the third ‘Blood Trail Book,’ it carries on with another self-contained adventure featuring the leading protagonist of Travis VanHorn yet again. The books themselves work as stand-alones, but they do reward returning readers with an ongoing journey and narrative arc. Constantly keeping the action moving throughout, there’s plenty of other engaging characters too that really bring the book to life.
Heading into Native American territory, Travis VanHorn isn’t even going to be stopped by a pregnant wife. Called upon by his brother, he’s wired asking for help hunting down the killers of their mentor, as they aim to track them down. Regretting his decision he returns to Wichita, now all alone, but then he’s called up to help some family and friends with some old cases from Texas. Will he be able to manage them, can he overcome his own difficulties, and what will become of his blood vengeance?
Coward of Sand Creek
Initially published back in 2021, this would first come out on the 27th of October, with it being the fourth entry into the ‘Colorado Territory’ series of novels. Following on from each other only thematically, the books can be picked up at any point, as they don’t have to be read in any order. They are set in the same world and area though, with them being Western action novels, set in a particular time period.
There’s a lot to invest in here, as the reader can really immerse themselves in both the story and the overall world. Working as both an insight into a period in time, as well as being an entertaining novel, it operates on many different levels. A must for both fans of the genre and of the author, it’s definitely one that will keep the reader constantly turning the page.
Once thought to be a peace loving man, Chase Tanner is labelled an ‘Indian lover’ and coward following him attempt to prevent the slaughter of the Arapahos and Cheyennes at Sand Creek. Living with the supposed ‘shame,’ he refuses to run away from it, despite Colorado militia constantly chasing him up about it. Then he falls for a Cheyenne while becoming friends with a half-breed, only to end up fighting to clear his name, along with saving the lives of his friends around him. Will he be able to survive this ordeal, can he defend the lives of those around him, and what will become of the supposed coward of Sand Creek?
