The Jolie Wilkins books often receive mixed reviews. The people they appeal to absolutely love them. However, those individuals that aren’t sold on the series pretty much detest it. Only a select few readers can claim to fall in the middle ground.

The Jolie Wilkins series tells the story of Jolie Wilkins. Jolie is just another girl living in the suburbs of Los Angeles, or so one might assume from the outside. It might come as a surprise for people to learn that Jolie is actually a psychic.

When the series first kicks off, Jolie Wilkins is making do with her life as a psychic. She owns a shop in Los Angeles where she earns a living by reading auras and telling people about their futures. Jolie also occasionally uses her predictive powers figure out how to make her business grow.

Jolie is seemingly content with her life. She isn’t necessarily happy. Her love life is none existent, after all. But, taking into account her business venture with her best friend and the cute house she has in the suburbs, Jolie is comfortable.

The feisty lady’s life changes when a ghost suddenly comes her way. Jolie had never seen a ghost before that point and she later finds out that the creature was sent her way by Rand Balfour, a sexy Warlock that has had his eyes on Jolie for a while.

Rand was initially only interested in testing and determining the strength of Jolie’s powers. And what he sees proves his suspicions that Jolie is a witch. Even as Jolie struggles to make sense of this revelation, Rand recruits her to help him solve a mystery involving a ghost.

Not only do Jolie’s powers help her solve Rand’s mystery but she inadvertently brings the ghost back to life. Jolie performs this feat completely by accident and it proves to Rand that Jolie is an exceptionally powerful witch.

And if Jolie thought she could slink back into the shadows of her old life once her business with Rand ends, the idea is quickly banished from her mind when the strength of her gift begins to spread in the underworld.

Suddenly, everyone wants a piece of Jolie, and not for the healthiest of reasons. The Jolie Wilkins series then proceeds to explore the manner in which Jolie handles her newfound fame.

As Jolie begins her journey into the underworld, she is introduced to a whole new existence she had never given much thought to. She learns about all the creatures that go bump in the night and she finds that there are as many friendly supernatural creatures as there are dangerous ones.

Jolie makes friends and enemies in equal measure. A notable enemy that sets out to capture Jolie is Bella, an individual of considerable strength who intends to use Jolie’s power to elevate herself to the position of queen of the underworld.

Fortunately for Jolie, she has Rand. Not only is he one of the hottest men she has ever seen, but Rand shows a willingness to stand between her and Bella. He not only takes her under his wing but Rand begins to train her in the hopes that she can grow strong enough to fend off the many enemies that are out to get her.

Jolie is not immediately comfortable with her gifts. They turn out to be more of a challenge to master than she expected. However, she eventually realizes that she must accept her heritage as a witch in order to face Bella and her ilk.

A crucial aspect of the Jolie Wilkins series is Jolie’s relationship with Rand. In the beginning, Jolie is clearly attracted to Rand and she spends many a page dreaming about what she would like to do to him.

Along the way, Jolie meets Sinjin, a beautiful vampire that claims to only want Jolie for her blood but who Jolie cannot help but fall for. While Jolie is initially dead set on going after Rand, Sinjin’s continual presence begins to shake her resolve.

Rand contributes to this outcome because he initially fights his feelings for Jolie. He clearly has a thing for her but, as her employer, he doesn’t believe it would be appropriate to date her.

This love triangle lasts throughout the run of the Jolie Wilkins series, and eventually, Rand and Sinjin become Jolie’s protectors. While she struggles to choose between them, the pair makes it their goal to keep Jolie safe from any forces that would harm her.

It is worth noting the role Jolie Wilkins plays in the negative reviews these books receive. The heroine has been criticized for being way too uncertain and indecisive, especially with regards to the astronomical amount of time Jolie spends trying to choose between her two men.

The heroine also makes a lot of bad decisions, this while coming off as being so shallow that she is willing to allow her desire to have sex with a deadly vampire to override her sense of self-preservation.

+Toil and Trouble

Jolie Wilkins doesn’t look like she’s anything special. But Jolie is a psychic. Even more than that, Jolie is a witch, one that can raise the dead. And it’s because of all the people that desire to claim her for their own that the underworld has descended into civil war.

Following a confrontation with fairy magic, Jolie Wilkins returns to a world that has been changed. The villainous Bella is determined to stake her claim to the throne of the underworld, and her actions are having repercussions on the peace of the underworld.

Meanwhile, Jolie Wilkins must get her vengeance against the vampire that tried to kill her even while choosing between the two dangerous men she loves.

+Witchful Thinking

Jolie Wilkins is the Queen of the Underworld. It isn’t the sort of goal she dreamed of achieving and she’s definitely out of her element. Governing supernatural creatures is no easy task. But because of her power to reanimate the dead, Jolie must adapt to her new role in the Underworld.

Meanwhile, Jolie must also deal with a sexy warlock and a deadly vampire each of whom is fighting for her love.
