Focusing on the military and specifically the subject of military intelligence for a lot of his fiction, Jonathan Dyer has a lot of novels set within the genre of espionage. Creating taut suspense filled thrillers, he’s managed to craft tightly knit and complex stories that are still easy to follow and extremely accessible. The main example of this can be found in his Nick Temple novels which involve the eponymous CIA agent of the same name, as he attempts to keep the world safe, whilst it’s set primarily in the sixties.

With great attention to detail Dyer has also managed to create stories that are accurate in their portrayal of military life, especially those that are historically based. Silent Vector: A Nick Temple File

Initially published in 2014 through the ‘Silent Vector’ publishing label, this was first brought out on the 21st of July. Set in 1962, it sees the CIA spy Nick Temple on vacation in the Virgin Islands, as he hopes to take some time to relax. This isn’t to be, though, as he happens to stumble across a Soviet Union plot to unleash a variant of polio that’s vaccine resistant into the heart of America. With America distracted by the threat of the Cuban missile crisis it seems that Temple is on his own with a small team of specialist, as they attempt to put a stop to the nefarious plan. Will they be able to prevent the attack from taking place? Can Temple save America? What will happen in the silent vector?

Stepping up to the task is one Chet Brinker, a CIA agent who comes across their plan and realises that he must put a stop to it. Looking to get their hands on the mythical ‘Holy Lance’, the Russian commanders hope to return Russia to its former glory. Will Chet be able to stop them? Is there going to be enough time to save the world? Can he find the Holy Lance?
