Jordan Dane is a former energy sales manager turned romantic suspense, young adult, mystery and thriller author. Her novels are known for being very cross-genre. Jordan writes novels with gritty plots weaving a tapestry of intrigue dark humor and vivid settings that may just have been ripped from the headlines. She has said that she loves to challenge the moral barometer of her readers by writing characters with flawed personalities, borderline ethics, and angst-ridden antiheroes who wrestle against unforgettable villains. Combining several genres, her novels have elements of thriller, mystery, forensics, police procedural, suspense, humor and romance. She wrote her first ever novel “No One Left to Tell” in 2008 after pursuing publication for more than five years. The novel was her big contest winner and she immediately embarked on its sequel “No One lives Forever.” Halfway through, she realized no one would buy it if the first was not published and went back to try publishing it. She wrote her critically acclaimed novel “No One Heard Her Scream” that was the first of the No One Series in six weeks while she was on medical leave. She has never looked back since and has several series to her name including the “Sweet Justice,” “Hunted,” “Ryker Townsend FBI Profiler,” “Mercer’s War,” “Braxton Valentine” and several single standing novels such as “In the Arms of Stone Angels” and “On a Dark Wing.” Her biggest influences are Dean Koontz who she loves for his master storytelling and use of similes and metaphors and Robert Crais for the humor and humanity in his writing.
Jordan does a lot of research for her novels which gives her settings, characters, and plots a realistic feel. She always has technical advisors for her novels though the type of people who assist change from story to story. Her favorite is a friend of hers that is a former hostage rescue professional, weapons expert fireman, and EMT paramedic. The man who is also an aspiring author provides his expertise which provides authenticity in most of Jordan Dane’s novels. In return, she helps him with storyboarding and plot structure, reading and critiquing his works. But even with his expertise, she also does a lot of research and verifies what she learns in several ways and may even ignore expert advice if it benefits the fiction. Jordan has lived in Alaska for more than a decade and has a lot of life experiences which she sometimes incorporates into her novels. Some of her characters and plots are drawn from her voice and point of view even though she also spends a lot of time online learning forensics. She also reads a lot from her resource library and exchanges ideas with her mystery suspense and crime scene discussion groups as an active member of the International Thriller Writers and the Romance Writers of America.
Jordan’s characters often come to her before her story and will often get her up at night. Not to worry though as she has papers and pens all over the house to capture her moments of epiphany. Her detectives are the archetypal detectives who have personal problems they are dealing with as they work on homicide cases. However, they tend to have a tender and warm side to them that separates them from your everyday detective. In “No One Heard Her Scream,” her protagonist is inspired by the Natalee Holloway case of a family in crisis mode whose lives are then defined by a tragedy forever. Even though Rebecca is a detective, what makes her so endearing is that she is your everyday lover sister, best friend, daughter or sister even if she can be tough. Detective Raven Mackenzie of “No One Left to Tell” is an everyday girl too as she explores her spirituality following the discovery of a dead body in church and collects DVDs in remembrance of her deceased father. She also does love, feel pain and is frustrated just as much as every other person.
In “No One Heard Her Scream” by Jordan Dane, Rebecca Montgomery is introduced as a homicide detective frustrated that the investigation into her sister’s disappearance seems to have hit a dead end. Given that she is related to the victim, she has been banned from the case and this has led to several altercations with Paul Murphy, the lead detective in the case. But Becca believes that the bodily remains she found outside a burned-down theater may have something to do with her sister’s disappearance. Just when she gets close to cracking the mystery, the FBI butt in and force her off the case by mandating that she goes on leave. She is not one to be deterred by leave and pursues Diego Galvan the man she met at the theater as she believes he is working for Hunter Cavanaugh, the man she thinks is responsible for all that has happened. It turns out that the remains are those of another missing woman named Isabel Marques that had disappeared a few years past. Becca continues with her investigation but the more she gets closer to Cavanaugh the more dangerous it becomes. Cvanaugh’s deputy Brogan is not beyond kidnapping if that is what it would take to protect himself from getting arrested. But the detective is in for a bigger surprise regarding her missing sister.
“No One Left to Tell” is the story of Detective Raven Mackenzie and Tony Rodriguez her partner, who are investigating a bizarre homicide of a man killed in a chapel. The killer had left a cryptic message pinned in the man’s chest, which just confuses the detectives more. Their investigations show that the man is connected to Fiona Dunhill, a powerful female crime boss. Rodriguez and Mackenzie think Christian Delacorte the head of her security has something to do with the homicide. The man had always hated cops since his family was killed in a police raid gone wrong. But now his employer forces him to work with the police and this just brings up buried memories he would rather have in the past. But Christian is loyal to his boss and will do whatever is required of him. Even though he wanted nothing to do with the detectives, the investigation reveals a connection between the chapel homicide and the murder of his little sister and his parents years ago. Raven is convinced that Christian is the key to unraveling the mystery. She also believes his past and the current homicide could have something to do with the assassination of Fiona’s husband a few decades past. But things get complicated as the tension, bond and attraction between her and Christian begins to intensify.
“No One Lives Forever” opens to the kidnapping of Nicholas Charboneau in Cuiaba Brazil. Jasmine Lee his bodyguard is left unconscious with a note asking for a million dollars to be deposited in an account left in her pocket. Exhausted with searching for her boss Jasmine heads back to the US where she hopes to call in a favor owed to her by Christian Delacorte. Christian has no choice though Raven is not thrilled. He owes Jasmine and regardless of what everyone feels, he has a duty to pay her back. Things are not so rosy in Brazil where he misses a hit and run by a hair, is threatened by Luis Duarte, a police captain and it seems someone did a Macumba ritual on his doorstep, leaving behind a deadly snake. Meanwhile, Christian learns that Charboneau is his father though he starts to think that maybe the man is involved with the contemptible things going on. Things get more complicated when Raven appears on his doorstep unable to wait for Christian back home. It gets even worse when Jasmine gets kidnapped when they are out investigating with Christian.
