Josh Hayes is the author of science fiction novels. He is the author of the Valor series, the Second Star series, the Tranquility series with Devon C. Ford, and the Terra Nova Chronicles series with Richard Fox.

Hayes is a retired police officer and military man. He joined the Air Force after high school and served for six years. He then went to work in law enforcement for the Wichita Police Department. While working there he served in many positions, including as a patrol officer, on the bicycle unit, as a community policing officer, and as an assistant bomb technician on the Bomb Squad. He was a long-time fan of science fiction having been hooked after watching his first Star Trek episode. He read a lot of science fiction while growing up in a military family and even wrote some of his own. That life took him to multiple states and countries so he learned what it was like to meet different types of people. His police work also gave him a unique look into people’s lives. He has used these experiences to create the characters in his book.

Josh considers reading to be the number one source of inspiration to write. He reads a lot of books so he is always getting new ideas. He has been writing since he was fourteen years old and is now able to share his stories with the world thanks to Indie publishing. Josh enjoys seeing the dashboard of the publisher which tells him that people are actually reading the stories.

In addition to his work as an author, Josh is the creator and president of Keystroke Medium, a popular YouTube show and podcast focused on the craft of writing. The show features author interviews and discussions on the craft of writing. When Josh is not writing or working on his show, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children.

To other people who are looking to become writers, Josh recommends taking your time and not rushing things. He says that when you let people read your work that it is important to listen to what the readers are telling you. A writer doesn’t necessarily have to agree with all that is said, but they should be open and if multiple people are saying the same thing then it might be worth paying attention to. He also says that having a thick skin is important as people giving honest feedback is not the same as being against you. Take what they say and use it to make it better.

Edge of Valor is the first book in the Valor series. Special Agent Jackson Fischer is called into investigate after a military operation goes wrong and ends in disaster. The entire platoon went in, but only three Alliance Mariners returned. The rest of them were killed in action along with many civilians. Now, the tensions between the Holloman Alliance and Stonemeyer are reaching their boiling point and Fischer will need to put the pieces together fast. As they dig into the case, one thing has become clear: the Mariners who survived are lying about what happened. Fischer’s investigation leads him to finding this mission was far more than a rescue mission. The truth will lead him to something that perhaps should be left buried.

The Valor series continues with Echoes of Valor. The story picks up after the events of the first book as Jackson Fischer is determined to uncover the truth and make those responsible pay for what they’ve done. There is pressure coming from above to close the case, but Fischer is still hoping for more evidence. While Corporal Allen Sheridan is assigned to Alliance Marine Special Operation Command where he and the members of his new team find themselves in the middle of the biggest clandestine operation in Alliance history. The Alliance stands on the brink of war and now each man is in a race against the clock to find the answers that will end this conspiracy.

Blood and Steel is the first book in the Tranquility series that Hayes writes with Devon C. Ford. Joel Lander is looking for a fresh start away from Earth and the wars that rock the planet. He’s now on his second mission to the distant world of Tranquility where he plans to build a new life for him and his family. The planet is said be everything that Earth isn’t, but upon arrival he finds that is not the case. New Independence has gone dark and now Joel will have to fight a terrifying enemy if he is to have any hope of saving his new home.

Hayes is also the author of the Second Star series. The first book in the series is Breaking Through which introduces John McNeal as he has just sixty-six days left on his service contract with the military. If he survives, he is done for good. Before he can get there, a mysterious right in the fabric of spacetime sends him to an alien world. Now, he’ll need to team up with childhood heroes if they have any hope of surviving.

The Terra Nova Chronicles series is written by Josh Hayes and Richard Fox. The first book in the series is called Terra Nova. The title refers to a place which is being promised as humanity’s new home. It is safe from the threats of the galaxy and is meant to be a place where the veterans of war could finally live in peace. Unfortunately, that is all a lie. Chief Katherine “Kit” Carson heads there to put her past behind her and build a brand new life, but instead of colonies they find abandoned cities and a terrifying new enemy that humanity has never met before. In order for the colony to survive, Carson must unravel the mystery of her new home and find out what exactly happened to the first mission to settle the planet.
