Joyce Smith's Running Book(1983)Description / Buy at Amazon

An American author guided by her faith just as much as she is by her love of literature, Joyce Smith has inspired countless readers worldwide. Knowing exactly what it is that her readers are looking for when it comes to her novels, she has created a niche that is very much one of her own. Speaking to readers worldwide too, she manages to reach a global audience, regardless of their various backgrounds. Largely focusing on non-fiction, she writes straight from the heart about issues that are very real to her, producing stories from her own life, giving them her own unique perspective and outlook. This has led to her becoming a huge success in her own right, as she is inspired by her own family and the love of all those around her in her life.

Creating books that are written as almost memoirs, she manages to produce novels that really capture something very real and very human. With strong narrative themes running throughout, she also provides instruction for others, helping her readers to achieve their goals and make the most of themselves. With a lot more expected to come, she continues to write, whilst always on the lookout for the next big idea to help inspire her and her work.

Early and Personal Life

This is something that has been well documented throughout her writing career, as Joyce Smith would come to put a lot of herself into her work. Born in Wichita, Kansas, in the United States, she would always have a strong passion for both reading and writing, something she would always carry with her as the years went by. Constantly honing and refining her craft as an author, she would live in a number of different places whilst growing up, all due to her father’s work for a tool and die company. This would see her moving to Ohio at a young age, along with eight further states, as well as spending time in both Canada and Germany as well. All of this would come to make her the writer that she currently is today, now living with her husband in St. Charles, Missouri, where she will carry on writing for quite some time to come.

Writing Career

Contributing to and writing over thirty books and counting during her writing career, Joyce Smith is a well regarded author of numerous works of non-fiction literature. Writing with various other authors and writers, she has also written alongside her husband, as she writes about everything, from her travels to her family. Whilst she doesn’t write any long-running series as such, she opts for more stand-alone works, telling her stories succinctly in a matter-of-fact manner. Over time her novels have also attracted the attention of Hollywood, with her 2017 title ‘The Impossible’ being optioned for a film adaption in 2018, with it being released under the name ‘Breakthrough’ in 2019. This has led to where she currently is today, enjoying her success with a lot more books expected to follow, as her writing career grows from strength-to-strength.

The Impossible

First coming out in 2017 on the 7th of November, this would initially be released through the ‘FaithWords’ publishing outlet. Not a part of any over-arcing series, this would be a major title for Joyce Smith, as she would recount a major and important part of her life. Becoming a major feature film as well, it would be one of her most successful titles as well, with it resonating with scores of readers worldwide.

As a family, the Smith’s would face an ordeal, only to emerge the other side having had their faith truly invigorated. When their fourteen year old son falls through the ice one day into a freezing lake he is rushed to hospital where he is lifeless for sixty minutes. This leads Joyce Smith to pray for son, leading to him miraculously being ‘resurrected’ as she describes it, living to see another day. Looking at this event from all angles, it shows Smith’s faith and how her son would walk once again sixteen days later from the hospital now completely healed. Taking the time to understand this as she sees it, Smith really works at providing the reader with her own analysis of the event in question.

Let Us Pass Over to the Other Side

Written under the subtitle of ‘The Method of God’s Cure is There’, this would be a stand-alone work of non-fiction from Joyce Smith. Initially published in 2010 on the 13th of July, it would be published through the ‘Tate Publishing and Enterprises’ publishing label. This would also be a definite must for fans of the author, as it would provide a clear sense of development and where she’s come from over the years.

Offering a polemic of sorts for the reader from Joyce Smith, this shows her at her most persuasive and passionate. Really laying everything out for the reader, she manages to examine what it is that the reader may be looking for then providing her own solutions. Taking her ideas of faith, she applies them to her own life, before taking them out into the wider world at large, giving the reader a more powerful understanding of what it is that she is saying. Writing clearly and concisely, she definitely makes her voice heard, rising above the material, and taking it to a whole other level.

Looking through the lens of faith, this provides a perspective of how God has always provided a cure for his people. From the Israelites having the Red Sea parted for them, to the ram in the bush provided to Abraham, he’s seen as always being there when most needed. Examining the issues of these modern times, such as corruption and greed, Joyce Smith breaks down how she feels faith can guide people through, with God being at the other side. Understanding the realm of God as she sees it, she aims to instruct the reader on another path in life, and how they can make the most of it in these troubled times. Getting to the heart of the matter, Smith looks at her own faith too, as she clearly states ‘let us pass over to the other side’.
