Judi Lynn
Judi Lynn is an American author of cozy mystery and romance with several novels to her name. She holds an Indiana University master’s degree, and she worked for an elementary teacher for six years. When she started a family. Lynn shelved her teaching career and focused all her energies to raising her daughter. It is during this time that she discovered her love for writing and went ahead to write different mystery stories. When not writing, Lynn enjoys cooking, trying out new recipes, and gardening.
The Body in the Attic
The Body in the Attic is the first book in the A Jazzi Sander Mystery series. The book features Jazzi Zanders, a hardworking woman in the business of flipping houses. Jazzi, together with her cousin Jerod is just about to get started on their next project. Cal Juniper previously owned the property the two are working on. This house is covered in debris, and Jazzi and Jerod have to clean it first before renovations start. However, a trip to the attic stops the duo right on their tracks. There is a skeleton there, and the shocking thing is that Jazzi recognizes the locket the skeleton is wearing.
After tests are done, it is confirmed that the skeleton belongs to Lynda, who also happens to be Jazzi’s aunt. Before this skeleton was discovered, everyone in the family thought that Lynda had moved to New York after her breakup with Cal. The family gets together to try and piece the details of what happened. It doesn’t help that Cal is now dead, and there is no one else who knew about aunt Linda’s disappearance. Using memories and rumors, Jazzi’s family tries to solve the mystery surrounding their auntie’s death. Before dying of a heart attack, Cal spent most if not all of his time alone, so there is no one the family can turn to for information.
Aunt Lynda was quite the free spirit, and her family thought she was a little wild. A few times, she had broken off a few engagements in favor of a new and more interesting man. When the family hears that Lynda has gone to New York, they are not particularly concerned. Even when years pass without hearing from her, the family assumes that Lynda has enough interesting things that are keeping her busy. It is only after the discovery of her skeleton that the family gets to learn about Lynda’s past and the many suitors she ditched at the last minute. Could there be something Lynda was hiding by acting all wild around her family?
As the investigation goes on, Jazzi continues with her renovation plans. A lot is happening here in the story. For example, Jazzi is falling in life with the house’s charm as well as her contractor Ansel. Many surprises are lurking in the background. There is also a possibility of a killer waiting to pounce of his next victim. The Body in the Attic is an exciting read filled with many unexpected twists and turns. All the characters are fascinating, and the pace is consistent throughout the story. Get to see what happens to the house after remodeling and the details Jazzi and her family unravel about the long-lost auntie.
Cooking Up Trouble
Cooking Up Trouble is the first book in the Mill Pond series. This book introduces you to Mill Pond, a little town where people enjoy fresh food, air, and country living. The city also comes with a good dose of new gossip on romance. The residents of Mill Pond are quick to notice Ian McGregor. In his fancy car and stylish suits, Ian looks out of place in this sleepy town. Well, it seems that there is a lot that Ian doesn’t know about country living, and this includes changing a tire. When Tessa Lawrence realizes that her neighbor is having trouble with his tire, she offers to help. Tessa goes ahead to invite Ian for dinner.
Once the two get talking, Ian reveals that he is from New York, and he is looking to set up a luxury resort in Mill Pond. The resort will be located right next to the farm Tessa uses to grow berries for her jams and baked goods. Their friendship continues to grow as the two interact, but Tessa is keen to keep their relationship neighborly. After all, Ian has a fancy girlfriend, who is nothing like Tessa. Having had her fair share of heartbreaks, Tessa knows all too well that men like Ian are simply bad news. However, Ian is quite charming, and it is evident that resisting him will be one hard task.
Tessa and Ian are easy to love. Both are comfortable in their skins, and they are not afraid to speak their minds. Tessa is successful in her own right. The hardworking woman has a running business that she has been managing single-handedly for six years. While she once had a fiancé, Tessa has stayed away from the dating scene since she found the man she wanted to marry another woman in his arms. In her free time, Tessa prefers to write romance novels as opposed to going out and interacting with the few eligible bachelors in Mill Pond.
Cooking up Trouble is a sweet romance story that you can read when you are in the mood for a book that will warm your heart. Tessa is a great heroine in the story, and her self sufficiency can only mean that she beats the city girls’ hands down. Ian, on the other hand, is a visionary, and his love for this small town is evident from the start. It is admirable to note that he is willing to ask for help where necessary and appreciate those who come to his rescue. The small town also gives this story quite an edge, and this, together with the great flow, turns the novel into an intriguing piece. If you are a fan of contemporary romance stories, you can be sure that you are going to love this book.
