Judith Cutler is a published English author of fiction.

Born in 1946, she grew up in the Midlands in the Black Country. Cutler particularly likes to use this area and the rich cultural details of where she was born and grew up for her books as a background. She would later relocate to Harborne, a suburb of Birmingham.

As a child she would attend Oldbury Grammar School. It was around this time that she first began writing. She would even win a Critical Quarterly prize for a short story. She would read a lot when she was at university but it would be a while until she decided to start writing again. Cutler would not compose more until she had reached her thirties.

She came down with a case of chickenpox and it was then that she decided to start her first novel, which would ultimately go unpublished. She followed it up with two more novels that came after that also went unpublished. She kept with it but also worked in Birmingham teaching English at a further education college that was a little run down.

Upon having her first novel accepted for publication and making it to the press, she decided to quit. She would also move to King Heath, a suburb. She has taught at Birmingham University instructing in creative writing and has orchestrated other writing courses in places that range from a prison of maximum security to a beautiful Greek Island.

She was a trustee for several years as part of the Benevolent Fund of the Symphony Orchestra for the City of Birmingham. She also served on the Birmingham Chamber Music Society’s Committee. She has since become a short story writer in addition to full length novel author with the publication of short stories, some prize winning and that have appeared in Bella magazine, Radio 4, and other notable places.

In addition to being an author, she also would spend time ministering to her peers while serving in her role as secretary for the writing group Crime Writers’ Association. She is known for her work in crime fiction and has penned several mystery and crime series, including Sophie Rivers, Detective Sergeant Kate Power, Lina Townend, Fran Harman, Tobias Campion, and more. Many of them are set during the present day and reference or take place in Birmingham.

Cutler is married to her husband, Keith Miles.

Judith Cutler is the creator and the author of the popular Sophie Rivers series of fictional novels. The series first became available for readers to enjoy with the release of the debut novel in the series in 1995, which is titled Dying Fall. This was then followed up in 1996 with the sequel, titled Dying to Write. There would be several more books in this series so if you are looking for something interesting to enjoy with plenty of mystery twists included, then check out this fictional series for yourself!

Dying Fall is the first book in the Sophie Rivers series by Judith Cutler. In this book, readers get to meet the main character of Sophie Rivers for the first time and witness all of the dramatic twists and turns that happen in her life.

Sophie is a regular young woman that is just like anyone else. She makes ends meet by lecturing in English and also has a side job as an amateur singer. Perhaps her life is not that extraordinary, but she likes living in Birmingham and is satisfied by the quality of her life. She has a great income and loves hanging out and spending time with her friends.

However, things are about to drastically change and suddenly things just start going left. Sophie is shocked when she finds out that one of her students has been attacked on the grounds of the college. The prognosis is not good as he has been murdered, stabbed to the eventual end of their life.

That’s not the only thing that is going wrong. She is horribly surprised once more when it turns out that George has been killed as well. She was much closer to George than the student as he was her best friend. He was killed on a new site, the Music Center that had just been constructed. It seems to be a horrible accident, but was it really?

Everyone but Sophie Rivers appears to think that this was just another tragic mishap. She thinks differently and is determined to try and figure out just what happened. When she apparently is the new target for murder, her suspicions are confirmed. Sophie knows that she is onto something, but someone clearly does not want her to find out what’s going on.

Will Sophie persist and get justice for the death of George? Or will she be the next in line for a horrible death made to look like an accident? Find out by picking up a copy of Dying Fall for yourself!

Dying to Write is the second book in the Sophie Rivers series. If you enjoyed the mystery of the first book, then check out this sequel and catch all of the action for yourself!

Sophie Rivers is back, and she’s trying something new. She’s hoping that an endeavor taking a course in creative writing will provide her with inspiration to write. But of course things are never that simple.

Her room is the location for tragedy when a student also taking the course is discovered dead there. Nyree was beautiful but hadn’t made the best of tries to get along with Sophie. Still, Rivers can’t help but think that such a horrible end was not deserved by the student.

Things get even more complicated when the course tutor suddenly has vanished. It appears that one of the people taking the course may be responsible for the disappearance. It could be Courtney, who used to be a convict, or maybe Grimson, a surgeon with a large ego. Which of the students is the one that is making death happen in real life?

It could be anyone, and the police want her to leave it alone. But Sophie was born to investigate. Will she regret her choice when she becomes the target? Find out by picking up the exciting second novel in this series!
