Julia Kent is an American USA Today and New York Times bestselling author best known for writing edgy, contemporary romantic comedy and boundary pushing contemporary adult books. Since starting out in 2013, she has attained much success selling over 1.5 million novels with 16 titles making the USA Today bestseller list and four on the New York Times bestsellers. Some of her most popular novels include The Shopping series, The Obedient Series, The Random Series, and Her Billionaires Series. The popularity of her novels on both sides of the Atlantic has seen her novels translated into different languages including German and French. Julia Kent writes about a variety of issues ranging from new adult rock stars to BBWs to billionaires. However, what sets Julia Kent’s writing apart is that she always finds a way to make her contemporary romances more goofy and sensual in a way that no other writer does. Nonetheless, while she writes about meeting men in the weirdest of places such as the men’s room toilet, she met her non-millionaire husband in more agreeable settings. Julia Kent had always wanted to be a writer ever since she was in high school. Unlike many writers that have a mentor from a very young age, Kent was not so lucky. Her English teacher flatly told her that she lacked the required discipline to become a successful writer. It was some nasty observation, especially coming from a teacher to an ambitious sixteen-year-old girl. However, being the determined person that she is, she never took the observation to heart and instead used it to prove her teacher wrong. Working hard at her craft, she has been earning an income for years in different capacities, ranging from business to nonfiction and fiction. As such, she credits much of her dogged determination and success to the advice given to her by the high school teacher that drove her to prove her wrong. She first got into the writing of romance novels when her dream of one day becoming a professional pilot was confirmed as a mere pipe dream because of her fear of flying. Writing about very flawed and very real people is something she does not shy away from, and hence the jump from nonfiction to fiction was a natural progression at that stage in her life.
Most of the novels in Julia Kent series are about ordinary women that meet billionaires in the most unlikely of places. Most of the inspiration for the books is drawn from Julia Kent’s vast experience as a mystery shopper. Over the course of thirteen years, she has written short books and numerous articles on her mystery shopping experiences. The experience was a great one as it provided the foundation for the hilarious narratives of her heroines that meet men in places such as toilets, the office, in high school, and even out shopping. Having lived such a life, she would know that you meet all kinds of men even at an oil change. Even as most of the novels are contemporary romances peopled with wealthy men as the heroes, it still has the quintessential romance elements such as steamy love sessions, the inevitable tension between the lovers, the stolen kisses, and wild excitement that Julia Kent writes with elegance to leave the reader drooling. The men are masculine and resolute persons that are given either to their jobs or to a life of no commitment. The women are driven by an inexplicable desire for the men probably because they seem so unattainable. It is all fireworks when the two meet, with sparks flying due to the tension.
Julia Kent’s Her First Billionaire series of novels introduces Laura Michaels the lead protagonist, who is looking for love online. She is an overweight, insecure, needy, twenty-six-year-old Business Analyst that lives with three cats. She does not expect much from her online suitors simply that they treat her with respect and not make it seem like they were doing her a favor. She thinks she may be asking for too much, and hence when Dylan Stanwyck a gorgeous firefighter asks her out she believes that it cannot be real. After all, why would such a man see in a woman like her? Dylan it turns out is in a threesome situation with his ski instructor Mike Pine. The pair has just lost their lover Jill who recently died, and are looking for a new partner. Laura Michaels the soft, cute, blonde from the online dating site seems interesting and smart enough to be a good replacement for Jill. But while asking her out on a date is easy, letting her in is not so simple. Dylan and Mike have more than an unconventional relationship – they have secrets. When Jill their threesome partner died, they found out that, their annual payments from her estate were so generous; they could buy entire towns in the Midwest. They are now in a dilemma as to whether they should tell Laura everything, as they would certainly risk the chance at forming a new bond. With their unconventional relationship and their newfound money, it is a tough call that makes for a great story with an interesting twist.
Her Second Billionaire is the sequel to the first novel in Julie Kent’s Billionaires series of novel. After Laura Michaels goes on a date with the former model, hunk and professional firefighter Dylan Stanwyck, she is so taken with him, and him with her that they spend the night together. Leaving Dylan’s house after she sees pictures of him with a buff-surfer type of woman plaster on his bedroom walls she deletes him from her contacts, thinking she would never be good enough for him. Much to her surprise, Mike Pine a marathon runner, and ski instructor with a face and body like that of an action hero contacts her within hours of leaving Dylan’s house. Encouraged by Josie her best friend, she takes the plunge and agrees to go on a date with him. What she does not know is that Mike and Dylan know each other and that after the pain of losing Jill, Mike is looking for someone to love only him. Even as Dylan is in the dark about his partner’s intentions, Mike sets out to prove to Laura that he is all that she needs. But just like Dylan Mike’s 1 billion dollars bequest from Jill has made his life go from simple to chaotic.
