Author Julianne MacLean writes romance novels, typically historical romance. She is a USA Today bestselling author and her books have sold over 1.3 million copies in just North America. Her books have been translated into different foreign languages.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from University of King’s College in English literature in the year 1987. She went back to college to study accounting, and got a degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting in the year 1992.

Before she quit to write novels, she worked in the Office of the Auditor General. She had made her first sale to Harlequin, with her novel “Prairie Bride” in the year 1999.

“Love According to Lily” won the Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Best Regency-Set Historical Romance Award. She has also won a Book Buyers Best Award and a Booksellers’ Best Award.

“To Marry the Duke” is the first novel in the “American Heiresses” series, which was released in the year 2003. London society is more complex than Sophia could have ever known. Each night is a different assembly or ball, and a new swirl of jewels and rustling gowns. Even though she feels she is making all kinds of social blunders, she is having a bit of success in her, or rather her Mother’s, objective. Her mother is beside herself with all the attentions she has been getting from some gentlemen that she finds suitable husband material.

Sophia really only has eyes for a specific duke, who seems to be able to make her heart beat quicken and noticeable from across the ballroom. He is the Duke of Wentworth, James Langdon. He makes her feel as no man has ever made her feel before.

She feels she has to push these feelings aside. Sometimes, she hears people whisper about his dark past, and quietly, he is referred to as the Dangerous Duke. Sophia is secretly overjoyed that he could love her, and yet is terrified of his attentions. She has waited quite some time for her true love, and must resist this Duke to keep her heart safe. If only Sophia knew what to do to proceed.

The plot of the book keeps you intrigued, and you are glued to each of the pages the entire way through. This is a great way to start off a series, and readers hope to get their hands on more from this series.

“An Affair Most Wicked” is the second novel in the “American Heiresses” series, which was released in the year 2004. Clara Wilson came all the way to London to clear her name, after her willfulness left her very unmarryable on the other side of the ocean. Before she can start practicing her curtsey, she stumbles into Seger Wolfe’s (Marquess of Rawdon) arms. She has never felt love before, but there is no doubt in her mind after meeting the Marquess that this is how it feels. It is too bad, then, that love is the furthest thing from her mind. She is here to find herself a husband, not a rake.

All the good gossips know that this notoriously wealthy Marquess loved and lost many years back. There are not many that have missed the way his broken heart pushed him from society ballrooms into the bedrooms of the society ladies. After he meets Clara Wilson at an ever-so-scandalous secret balls, he feels a strong desire for her, and it pulls him right back into aristocratic London. He finds that he is competing for the inappropriate beauty’s heart, and putting his own heart at risk in the game.

These are characters that are interesting and had depth to them. This is another enjoyable romance from a superb author. The story is enjoyable and the writing style is excellent for this kind of story.

“My Own Private Hero” is the third novel in the “American Heiresses” series, which was released in the year 2004. Could any of this love nonsense actually be worth the trouble?

For Adele Wilson, there is an obvious answer to that: of course not. Adele has watched her two sisters get dragged through scandals as well as heartbreak, and let’s not forget every ballroom in the city of London. All so they could find the husbands of their dreams. This is why she said yes to the very first British lord that asked for her hand. Why wouldn’t she marry the guy? He is honest, kind, and not at all sentimental.

Not like his taller, wilder, and much more mysterious cousin Damien Renshaw (Baron Alcester). Ignoring this man would be pretty easy if he were the type of guy that was intent on seducing the woman his cousin is supposed to marry. He is obviously trying to resist her. Suddenly, this proper behavior out of him only makes him that much more tempting to Adele, who is usually much more well behaved than this.

It would appear that Damien is bringing out a different side to Adele. An exhilarating, heady, and passionate side. It appears that fate is contriving to make her learn exactly what this love nonsense is truly all about. Against her best intentions.

“Love According to Lily” is the fourth novel in the “American Heiresses” series, which was released in the year 2005. Lily Langdon is finally grown up. Now that her brother the duke’s best friend (named Edward Wallis, who is malleable) has just been luckily and brutally turned down by his intended. Lily sees a chance for an entirely convenient and permissive husband is close to hand. Literally. Since he is staying at her own home for a house party.

The party, which was full of promise, takes a dark turn in tone by an awful twist of fate that puts Edward’s very life in jeopardy. Nothing but luck will save Edward, but Lily’s heart is gone when she gets a glimpse of what a devoted and strong guy he is in times of trouble.

Lily wanted the man that was supposed to be unlovable and wound up falling more in love than she thought could ever be possible. Their passion brings some great risk. But if a man and a woman are so much more together than apart, is there really anything that their love is unable to overcome?
