Author Julie Anne Long has always loved writing. She was editor of her elementary school paper (at Glenmoor Elementary in Mrs. Little’s fifth grade class did have one), her high school paper (along with her best buddy of high school, Cindy Jorgenson), and college paper. It was in college that the typesetter made her learn how to typeset herself due to her articles being usually late. It got her many desktop publishing jobs after that. At first, she planned on majoring in Journalism, but later switched to Creative Writing, which seemed like a move that felt comfortable to her.

She won a school spelling bee while in the seventh grade; she won with the word ukulele. She has the odd wardrobe and guitars to prove that she started out wanting to be a rock star. This was due to her Bono fixation that she had at the time. There was too much that came with it, something that she was not ready for. It was much harder than writing, too. It ended when she got sick of playing to just four people in a small club at midnight.

Even with all the interesting parts to being in a rock band, she still wanted to write. She found that she could take the best things about being in a band (which includes: men with wild hair, drama, and passion) and put it into writing. All the while, she could indulge in her love of research and history.

She wrote a novel (which is called “The Runaway Duke”) that she sent off to a literary agent. The agent was able to sell it to Warner Books, a few months later. It made her year a head spinner and extraordinary for her.

Her work is from the genre of romance. She says that she has been into romance ever since that time she snuck a Rosemary Rogers novel from her mother. Rogers, Laurie McBain, and Kathleen Woodiwiss are the three authors that introduced her to the romance genre.

“The Perils of Pleasure” is the first novel in the “Pennyroyal Green” series and was released in the year 2008. Scandal has come to London. Colin Eversea (who is a handsome, reckless and unapologetic rogue) has been sentenced to death for murder. To inconvenience him further, the only witness to the crime has gone missing. Throughout all of history, the Eversea line is full of people cheating fate in style. Colin gets taken from the gallows by a clever and beautiful mercenary.

Madeleine Greenway (both daring and cool headed) she does not allow Colin to charm her. The mission she is on is to kidnap him and get paid well for it, not to rescue him from death. It starts to become clear that someone wants Colin alive and Madeleine dead, so the pair form a shaky alliance. They go on a quest to find truth. With one another, they will face heavy danger, and a strong passion that neither on can resist.

Fans of the novel found that this story has everything to it: mystery, humor, action, and a happily every after with beauty and passion. Books like these make some realize what made them fall for historical romance in the first place. Some felt that the romance actually took a backseat to the mystery that is central to the whole thing.

“Like No Other Lover” is the second novel in the “Pennyroyal Green” series and was released in the year 2008. It is now or never for the most bewitching belle (who is named Cynthia Brightly) that the town has. She is driven from London by a secret scandal. It is imperative that she find a husband at the house party the Redmonds are throwing before the news gets all over Europe of her downfall. There is someone at Pennyroyal Green that already has been hearing the talk of dueling lovers and engagements that ended before marriage. It is the one and only Miles Redmond; who is a renowned explorer and heir to the vast fortune the family has. This last is due to his brother going missing.

Miles goes after Cynthia immediately, right when the beauty with ambition thought she was too good for the second born son. He is the heir apparent and taking pride in his control. All he asks is for a kiss in exchange for keeping her secrets and help with her husband hunt.

Where is the harm in a single kiss? Cynthia is about to find out that it is enough to set loose a fierce passion. Not to mention that Miles Redmond is like no other lover in the entire world.

Fans of the novel found that this was thoroughly enjoyable; fully of humor and populated with strong characters that sparked with one another. Some felt that they wanted to read more books by Julie Anne Long and they were able to finish the book in just a day.

“Since the Surrender” is the third novel in the “Pennyroyal Green” series and was released in the year 2009. When describing Chase Eversea (an English war hero), bold words are used. Things like ruthless, fearless, brilliant, and loyal. Trouble is something that plays a big role in every single Eversea’s destiny. For Chase, it comes to him in a mysterious message that makes him go to a rendezvous in London. He finds that one woman that he could never forget, Rosalind March.

Five years back, she desired the Captain more than anything. Back then, she was reckless but charming; now she is coolly self possessed and desire is the furthest thing from her mind. Her sister has gone missing and needs Chase to help search for her. Their search through London rekindles their passion, which has been smoldering for five years, for each other. There are also memories of some old battles, and they get challenged to surrender. To possibly love each other and the depths of a strong desire.

Fans found that Julie Anne Long had yet again written a great novel. Fans found that they were able to fly through the entire thing in just a few hours of reading. They even found that it is far ahead of most of the other historical romance books out there
