Julie Caplin is an English author of romance books best known for her book series Romantic Escapes. She also writes standalones romance books under the penname Jules Wake. She’s always had the passion for reading and writing books right from childhood. She is addicted to good food and travel, and she’s always on the hunt for the ideal gin and obsession picky about tonic, garnishes, and glasses. After completing her studies at the University of East Anglia, Julie began working as a public relations director for the many years she traveled around Europe taking the best drink, and food writers on press trips and sampling cookery delight in different cities in Belgium, Spain, France, Switzerland, and Copenhagen. It was a tough job for her, but someone had to accomplish it. Caplin draws major inspirations and settings for her three books in Romantic Escapes Trilogy thanks to her frequent tours across Europe. In 2019 Julie Caplin quit her job as a school business manager to a full-time writing career.

Miss Caplin became a published author in 2014 when Talk to Me her standalone novel written under the house name Jules Wake was published. She began her Romantic Escapes publication in 2018 when The Little Café in Copenhagen was published. Since then more sequels have followed.

The Little Café in Copenhagen

Kate Sinclair is a young woman who works in one of the leading public relations agencies in London. She strives to climb her career ladder, hoping for a promotion, but there are always problems along the way or in this case, her Ex Josh. Kate is forced by her boss Megan to make a paid press trip to Copenhagen with six journalists who could not be more different.

She wants to introduce her to the Danish way of life, and Kate senses the chance to prove to ex-Josh and the management that she is more talented and accepts the short-term offer. Above all, Kate is under pressure of time not only to prepare a presentation for Lars Wilders, but also to prepare all six journalists for this trip and, if possible, to take something positive with them.

After five pledges, Kate still has to convince the renowned journalist Benedict Johnson, popularly known as Ben. But he does not care about lifestyle and hygge, and certainly not about sponsored PR trips. At this point, it gets heated between Kate and Ben and the two fiercely fight each other especially when Ben is urged by his boss to take the trip unintentionally. Kate now has five days to convince all journalists, including Ben that Hygge is more than a lifestyle and also five days to not fall in love with the bastard. Chaos breaks out on the way to Copenhagen, and the story gets very adventurous.

What makes The Little Café in Copenhagen special and an interesting read is the incredibly good and easy to read writing style, the great humor, the dialogues, the lightness, the friendliness, the warmth and the charm of Copenhagen. The book inspires the reader and the Danish culture, and the sights are beautifully described.

It is a beautiful, and light read that leaves a positive feeling and makes you feel comfortable reading transporting you to explore Denmark’s small cafes and taste the pastries. The author, Julie Caplin, manages visually and emotionally to totally collect the reader and positively infect the flair of a country. The protagonists are all beautifully crafted, and you’ll love to hate some like the bosses and Josh, which was probably intended by the author.

The Little Brooklyn Bakery

After having initially turned down an opportunity for job swap in Brooklyn, Sophie makes a swift decision based on events that happen to her and emotions and arrives in the city that’s brash, noisy and fast- everything that she is not.

Sophie works as a food editor for a magazine, and she dedicates herself to her job wholeheartedly to prevent her heart from breaking into pieces- or rather to avoid heartbreaks. She has sworn never to love again, and so is her workmate Todd who also writes for the magazine and happens to sit next to Sophie’s desk and Bella, the cousin of her landlady. Spending time with Toddy thank to her acceptance to assist in Bella’s Bakery, Sophie gradually begins to see what she might be missing in London and realizes perhaps it’s high time to have some bits of fun. After all, it’s only six months, and she’ll be gone.

Todd and Sophie strike up a beautiful friendship as he helps her explore Brooklyn and she helps him discover what tasty food can be really like. Sophie, the heroine in the second book in the series was a supporting cast in the series debut novel, The Little Café in Copenhagen. However, you don’t need to have read the debut novel to get a sense of the characters or storyline flow in the second book. The novel can be read as a standalone.

Like the first book in the series, Julie Caplin has beautifully woven a plot line that will have you hooked in from the first page to the last. The author assures her readers that even after a heartful breakup, love can be found again. Her incorporation of food, pleasure, and joy in a romantic story make this book everything you could ever wish for in a romantic series.

The main characters are beautifully woven. For example, Sophie Bennings is a wonderful character you’ll wish to be a part of your circle’s of friends. She has had the shock of her life. She had the perfect life, had a loving man, a successful career with one of the best magazines and was living the dream. But in the blink of an eye, everything turned upside down for her, deeply betrayed and learned of the betrayal most awfully. So when an opportunity presents, one that’s right up her career’s alley she takes it without a second thought. The reader is able to see Todd and Sophie’s friendship transform into something else- something none was ready for.
