Hurley’s nonfiction works have featured in Locus, The Atlantic, and The Geek Feminist Revolution. The popular works of Hurley include books like The Stars are Legion, The Light Brigade, etc., and the two series, The Worldbreaker Saga and God’s War Trilogy.

A number of critics have labeled Hurley as an important voice in the writing field. She is also regarded as a brave, truly original, and an unflinching author with a unique vision. Hurley specializes in resistance movements and future of war, and her fiction appears to burn right through the readers’ heart and brain. Author Hurley was born and brought up in Washington State. She has lived in places like Fairbanks, Alaska; Chicago, Illinois; and Durban, South Africa. As of today, she lives in Dayton, Ohio. Hurley started publishing short fiction in 1998 and shifted her focus towards writing novels in 2010. Occasionally, she writes columns about the business and craft of fiction writing in the Locus magazine. Hurley’s first trilogy series, Bel Dame Apocrypha series or the God’s War series, is called ‘bugpunk’ by her. It is set on a desert planet in the far-future and describes a technology that involves insects. The matriarchal cultures of this world are inspired by Islam and are indulged in a perpetual war.

After the successful attempt at writing her first series, Hurley wrote another trilogy called the World-breaker saga. This particular series is grim-dark epic fantasy and is aimed at subverting the tropes of the fantasy genre. Hurley has traveled a lot in her life and has experienced different cultures. She has visited many parts of the world because of her professional and personal exploits. During her early 20s. Hurley invested herself in learning new things like boxing and traveling. She seemed to have acquired a pretty nomadic lifestyle when she was young. In between fulfilling her weird fantasies and extraordinary interests, Hurley found time to obtain degrees from the Alaska University and the Kwa-Zulu Natal University in history. She thinks that her life has become comparatively boring and she tries to keep herself busy by writing novels.

A well-known book series written by author Kameron Hurley is known as the Worldbreaker Saga series. It is comprised of a total of 3 books released between 2014 and 2019. This series takes place in a distant future and is set in a country called Dhai. The other essential kingdoms mentioned in the stories include Saiduan and Raisa. Hurley has described the central characters in this series in the form of Zezili Hasario, Anavha, Kirana, Oma, Lilia Sona, etc. The debut book of the series is entitled ‘The Mirror Empire’. It was released by the Angry Robot publication in 2014. The story opens by showing that nations are extinguished and continents get reshaped due to a catastrophic event. In the middle of such a difficult time, a troubled orphan saves herself from slavery and death. While the entire world indulges in a war with itself, the orphan comes to terms with her bloody past and goes on to become the Captain General.

Saiduan is described as a frozen kingdom, whose cities get decimated by invaders from outside realms. As a result, the entire kingdom is left in ruins and ash. As the cataclysm’s dark star continues to rise, a young fighter looks to complete the task of betraying his family, a half Dhai general experiences the dilemma of choosing between an alien Empress and the people loyal to her father, and an illegitimate ruler tries to hold together his country that is divided by civil war. As the story proceeds further, devastating betrayals and tense alliance take place. The Dhai attempts to hold itself against a huge force of the enemy nations that join hands against Dhai. The only hope it has is the support of its allies. Eventually, many small worlds perish, and one world rise above all.

The second installment of the series is called ‘Empire Ascendant’. It was also published by Angry Robot in 2015. This book opens by depicting that on the world of Raisa, the collision of parallel dimensions takes place every 2 thousand years. This causes destruction and death to all the worlds except one. After this, multiple worlds fight among themselves to gain dominance over all the others. The ones that survive in the end chose to contend with their enemies and friends that get newly imbued violent powers. Amidst all the battles and destructions, Dhai stands out as a pacifist country. Its last hope for survival lies in an illegitimate king’s hand. The king is assisted by a scullery maid having unpredictable and powerful magic.

As the enemies arrive in the form of doppelgangers and cover Dhai from all sides, Zezili Hasario takes up the sword of her Empress and unseats her. On the other hand, a couple of enslaved scholars set themselves on a journey home on a treacherous path. They carry with them a long-forgotten secret that is believed to save Dhai from the wrath of the invaders. But, as the enemies are doppelgangers, they don’t know who to trust. This book is filled with a lot of surprises. The story proceeds with such a pace that the readers feel completely astonished. The raw horror and petty cruelty help to take the plot forward. This book contains a lot of excellent elements in terms of dialogue, plot, wordbuilding, and characters. Hurley’s style of writing appears pretty much fearless and enthralling. The readers felt giddy and breathless as they turned the pages. Many of the lost their sleep and completed the reading in one sitting. Such is the level of quality of this novel’s story. Overall, this story is fearless and unapologetic. It went on to entertain readers all across the globe and become widely successful.
