Tallow is the debut novel in the Curse of the Bond Riders series. The first book in this series is set in a fantasy world that will draw you in with its magical presence! At the very edge of a border that is referred to as the Limen and close to a city that is beautiful and dotted with canals, a candle maker undertakes the extraordinary act of rescuing a child.
The candle marker takes the child and decides to raise him as his apprentice. As the years go by, he begins to notice that the child has a variety of talents and is naturally gifted. This is a child unlike most other children of the same age. The candle maker calls him Tallow, a fitting name considering their field.
The candle maker finds that as he teaches his apprentice how to make candles and that slow and deliberate art, it becomes something that evolves into a far more sinister plan. Things linger in the forest and they wait and watch from the shadows.
By turns, a queen, an aristocrat bent on vengeance, and the creatures known as the Morte Whisperers will have their turn to try and get the magic that they so crave. They can all sense it in this child, and the ancient magic and its power is so much that they will end up sacrificing whatever they can in order to try and control it any way that they can and take it for their own.
If they can’t have it, they are content to use it. But will these creatures have no problem betraying, lying, even manipulating and killing to get this magic? When magic is this powerful, it runs the risk of turning deadly. What will happen? You’ve got to pick up this exciting book from Karen Brooks to find out! Check out Tallow at your local book store or library and catch every intriguing moment contained inside for yourself!
Votive is the fun sequel and second book in Australian author Karen Brooks’ exciting Bond Riders series! When it comes to the world contained inside this trilogy, you better be able to follow all of the quick paced action, because there is a lot of it. Where the first novel left off, this exciting sequel picks up!
You can find that the stakes are higher than ever when it comes to the second installment of this popular series by Brooks. The beautiful and sometimes deadly world of the riders is back once more, and Tallow has become not just an apprentice but something much more.
Now things are getting complicated as Tallow finds out from the Maleovellis that they will be her patrons from now on. Her? Oh yes– Tallow has changed quite a bit. Where he was once a boy with a talent for making candles and just about anything else, he is now a beautiful female and a courtesan and assassin to top that off.
Now that Tallow is a girl, the Maleovellis tell her that she will now be named Tarlo. They clean her up and give her beautiful robes to dress in, telling Tarlo that she will now be making candles for just them and no one else. While she stays there, they teach her how to read and write and give her history lessons as well as other lessons in politics, science, etiquette, and history as well as how to behave and the ways that aristocracy traditionally conducts themselves.
They also know that Tallow has been massively talented and gifted. Now as Tarlo, this powerful well of magic still resides within her. With the help of Tarlo, they are going to be able to take out the royals and go for the throne at last.
The former apprentice has no idea about this hidden agenda. Yet Tarlo is far too busy learning things from Giaconda, who is as persuasive and patient as she is lovely. From her, Tarlo finds out how to disguise herself as well as practice love and become a spy.
Through all this time, she continues to make candles. However, she has no idea what they are being used for. The fortunes of the Maleovellis are quickly changing, and now that memories are surfacing in her mind, Tallow isn’t sure what is true.
It all culminates in a moment when Tallow’s life is threatened and an old lover returns. Tallow must go to The Limen in order to survive. But when a new Bond Rider shows up, will it change everything forever? Read Votive by Karen Brooks to find out!
